Dozens of households had their livestock, poultry, food, money, and household items swept away by the floodwaters. Many roads and spillways were damaged, eroded, had broken road surfaces, and landslides, causing traffic jams. The Xuan Tam hydropower plant was buried by rocks and soil, and the entire operating building and machinery system collapsed.

Immediately after the flood receded, the Party Committee and the government of Phong Du Ha commune urgently deployed the recovery work, regardless of day or night. Local forces with more than 750 people and many vehicles were mobilized to support the people.

12 working groups headed by commune leaders were established, immediately went to the affected villages to command and, together with local forces, support people in cleaning up, searching for assets, reviewing, assessing, counting damages, making plans and documents to propose overcoming the consequences of storms and floods; and organized visits and encouragement to households that suffered heavy losses.

Ms. Ngo Thi Nga in Khe Lau village is one of the households that suffered heavy damage due to storm No. 10. She shared:

During the most difficult times, the family received the attention of the Party Committee, the commune government and the people, who arranged food and accommodation, and helped clean up mud and search for property after the flood. In particular, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee also visited, encouraged and found solutions for the family. All of this made us feel that we were not alone. That was extremely precious.

The commune also determined that after the natural disaster, people need a lot of money to restore their lives. Therefore, the commune has actively called on and connected agencies, units, businesses and philanthropists to support and help the locality.

Through this, hundreds of millions of dong in cash, artifacts, and household items were sent, providing additional resources for people to rebuild their homes and buy livestock and crops.

The commune is also actively guiding people to restore production after natural disasters, and to harvest areas of food crops and flowers that cannot be restored to feed livestock and poultry. For areas that can be restored, people are instructed to monitor pests and diseases, and use appropriate and timely preventive measures to protect production.

With 18 households whose houses were swept away, completely collapsed and required urgent evacuation, the commune has immediately mobilized relatives and households with unused houses to use as temporary accommodation.

Mr. Pham Tien Duy - Head of the Economic Department of Phong Du Ha commune said: In the long term, for households that do not have land to build houses, the commune will propose and recommend the province to change the purpose of use from rice fields and gardens to residential land; at the same time, propose funding to support the reconstruction of houses according to regulations with the support level of 40 million VND/house for collapsed, washed away, or completely collapsed houses and 30 million VND/house for households that have to be urgently relocated, 20 million VND/house for severely damaged houses.

When people build houses, the commune will continue to mobilize social resources to add funding and human resources to support working days, helping households stabilize their lives soon.
