Ms. Pham Thi Thu Huong, Chairwoman of the District Women's Union, said: Every year, the Union has created conditions for members to access preferential loans; coordinated the organization of training courses and vocational training for members. Assigned cadres to communes and towns to propagate and mobilize members to apply technical advances in converting crops and livestock, preventing diseases; and participating in economic development models suitable to local conditions.
Currently, the District Women's Union has nearly 4,900 members, operating in women's associations of 16 communes and towns. The Union has coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, the District Agricultural Service Center to organize 15 training courses to transfer technical advances to members; organize tours for members to learn from good production and business models inside and outside the district. Up to now, the Union has been entrusted with the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Muong La District Branch over 111 billion VND through 74 savings and loan groups, lending to 2,523 member households. From the loan capital and knowledge gained from training, members have applied science and technology to production, bringing about efficiency; many women have escaped poverty and become rich. In 2023 alone, the Union at all levels coordinated to help 20 member households escape poverty.
In 2020, Ms. Tong Thi Van's family, Ta Bung Women's Union, Ta Bu Commune, borrowed 100 million VND from the District Social Policy Bank. Ms. Van shared: Through reading books and learning from experiences from many livestock models, my family borrowed money from the bank to expand the scale of the barn, invest in a poultry incubator, and plant over 1 hectare of banana trees. Currently, the family raises 8 pairs of porcupines, maintains 300 native chickens and ducks to supply breeds and eggs to the market. At the same time, they raise 100 more geese, chickens, ducks, and raise a 3,000 m2 fish pond. The livestock grows well, and the family earns more than 150 million VND annually from livestock farming. In 2023, the family supported 50 breeds for a disadvantaged female member in the village.
Ms. Mua Thi Du, Women's Union of Na En village, Chieng Lao commune, confided: With savings and loans from relatives and friends, my family bought 45 breeding goats for raising. Up to now, the family has maintained raising more than 100 goats. On average, we sell 2 batches a year, each batch has 25-30 goats, bringing in a good income. The family also grows 28 hectares of production forest, with an average annual income of nearly 100 million VND, allowing us to take care of our children's education.
In addition, women members also actively participate in emulation movements "Women actively study, work creatively, build happy families", "Follow Uncle Ho, practice thrift, help each other reduce poverty sustainably"; "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas"... The branches organize cleaning of village roads once a week; establish "Green House to raise funds from plastic waste to support livelihoods and health insurance for disadvantaged women; mobilize members to classify waste, dig garbage pits, and dispose of waste according to regulations; participate in planting flowers and trees... to create a bright - clean - beautiful landscape.
Continuing to accompany members in economic development, the Women's Union of Muong La district focuses on building livelihood models to help women escape poverty. Mobilizing members to strongly develop key crops and livestock, applying scientific and technical advances and mechanization in production, creating a close link between production and consumption. Improving the quality of activities of cooperatives and linkage groups and supporting the connection of agricultural product consumption of women's union members.
