Báo Phú YênBáo Phú Yên25/07/2023

With the active participation of the entire political system in poverty reduction work, Song Hinh district has achieved important results, the rate of poor households has gradually decreased.

Currently, Song Hinh district still has 1,521 poor households, accounting for 11%; 2,442 near-poor households, accounting for 17.6% of the total number of households in the district. Of the total 1,521 poor households in the district, ethnic minority households account for 78.5%.

Rise up to escape poverty

Because her family is poor, has no capital, and lacks land for production, Ho Dien in Bai village, Ea Lam commune has to work hard every day to earn money to raise her children. Despite many years of efforts, her family is still surrounded by difficulties. In early 2023, thanks to the support of the commune government, her family was able to borrow capital from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office. With money, Ho Dien bought back a hilly land and converted it into a two-crop rice field at the Ea Lam 2 Pumping Station field.

“This is my family’s biggest wish. This is my first time growing rice, and I have no experience, so I’m learning from everyone how to take good care of it. If everything goes well, this rice field will yield 10-15 bags like everyone else. If that happens, I’ll be very happy and won’t have to worry about hunger anymore,” Ho Dien confided.

Ksor Dhang in Ba village, Ea Ba commune, a few years ago, was a poor household in the village. Thanks to actively participating in training courses to expand knowledge and learn experiences in animal husbandry and cultivation. From the knowledge they learned, with the will to improve themselves, Dhang and his wife boldly switched to cultivating crops and livestock that bring high efficiency such as raising crossbred cows, raising goats, and growing high-yield cassava.

Ksor Dhăng said that after getting married and moving out, the couple's life was very difficult. Thanks to the State's technical and capital support, and the couple's hard work, their life has gradually improved. Every day, Ksor Dhăng goes to the edges of fields and streams to pick leaves to feed the goats. With meticulous care, from a few initial goats, the herd of goats has continuously increased, becoming one of the family's stable sources of income.

Ksor Dhang shared: "From this herd of goats, every year I sell more than a dozen, after deducting expenses, I make a profit of about 20 million VND, my family has escaped poverty, life is stable and getting better and better."

Mr. Dinh Ngoc Dan, Chairman of Song Hinh District People's Committee, said: There are 22 ethnic groups living together in the district, of which 47.9% of the population are ethnic minorities Ede, Ba Na, Cham, Tay, Nung, Dao... In recent years, with the attention of the Party and State, the lives of ethnic minorities in Song Hinh have changed and improved. However, due to a low starting point, there are still many families in difficulty, the rate of poor households and households falling back into poverty is still high. Faced with this situation, the district has implemented many projects and programs from capital sources to support production development, helping people have a livelihood and escape poverty sustainably.

Mobilizing all resources

Mr. Nay Y Ton, Head of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Song Hinh district, said: "In the near future, many projects will be implemented in the district, especially projects to diversify livelihoods and poverty reduction models, so that the poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty households have the conditions to rise up and escape poverty sustainably. In order for the projects to be effective, we are guiding communes and towns to survey people's needs, ensuring that the projects are suitable to reality, suitable to natural conditions, and the conditions of each household."

According to Chairman of Song Hinh District People's Committee Dinh Ngoc Dan, in recent times, national target programs have been effectively integrated, contributing greatly to the socio -economic development of the locality. Song Hinh is a poor mountainous district, and the particularly difficult areas of the district are even poorer. In the early days when the locality started to reduce poverty in this area, it encountered many difficulties due to harsh natural conditions and low education level of the people... But thanks to the consensus of the people and the efforts of authorities at all levels, the particularly difficult areas of the district have really changed.

To achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, the People's Committee of Song Hinh district has been mobilizing the entire political system to participate, regularly reaching out to propagate and mobilize to raise awareness and spirit of people to escape poverty. Departments and organizations have implemented many models and projects to develop production to reduce poverty, change occupations, diversify livelihoods; organize well job introduction sessions for people; pay attention to eliminating temporary houses... "Song Hinh strives to reduce the poverty rate to 7.22% by the end of 2023, and below 2% by 2025. At the same time, strive to increase the average income per capita to 60 million VND/year", Mr. Dinh Ngoc Dan added.
