Identifying poverty reduction as an important task, the locality has promoted the development of agricultural and forestry production, considering it a key industry. In the period of 2020-2025, the total cultivated area in the commune reached 4,835.26 hectares. Farmers have focused on converting crop structure, promoting the application of scientific and technical advances in cultivation, maintaining a large-scale field production model with an area of 160 hectares/452 households. Water-saving irrigation models and net-covered apples have brought practical results. The model of "1 must, 5 reductions" and "linking 4 households" in product production and consumption continues to be replicated.
The livestock industry is developing towards improving quality. Currently, the total livestock herd of Phuoc Nam is 36,779, an increase of 1,064 compared to 2020. With 50 small and medium-sized livestock farms, Phuoc Nam is the locality with the leading number of livestock farms in the district. In particular, in recent years, many households have switched to raising cattle, goats, and sheep to fatten 2,000-3,000 animals/year.
Comrade Chau Minh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee of Phuoc Nam commune, said: Implementing economic development solutions associated with local characteristics and advantages, combined with leverage policies such as: Support for preferential credit, healthcare, medical examination and treatment, housing; policies on education, vocational training and job creation, ... in recent years, the lives of Phuoc Nam people have changed a lot. Up to now, the poverty rate in the commune is only 2.98%, down 2% compared to 2020. Average income per capita is estimated at 64 million VND, more than 1.5 times higher than in 2020. The whole commune currently has about 3,500 workers working in industrial parks inside and outside the province. From 2022 to now, rural vocational training in Phuoc Nam has always exceeded the set targets. Implementing the policy of developing collective economy, the locality established 2 cooperatives and 5 cooperative groups operating effectively.
In an effort to improve people's lives, Phuoc Nam effectively promotes capital from investment programs, completes infrastructure of roads, intra-field canals, schools, medical stations, cultural and sports institutions, especially implements economic development production models... to serve people's production and daily life, changing the face of the countryside. The locality is currently making efforts to complete the criteria for advanced new rural areas. The villages of Van Lam 1, Van Lam 2 and Van Lam 4 are recognized as meeting new rural standards. Of which, Van Lam 2 village meets the model new rural standards.
Mr. Su Van Thuyen in Van Lam 4 village said: Compared to a few years ago, Phuoc Nam has changed a lot. Village roads and alleys have been concreted. Associations, unions and people work together to protect the environment, so residential areas are cleaner and more beautiful. The government has many policies to support people in developing the economy and creating jobs for their children, so people's lives have improved a lot.
These days of May, the Party Committee and authorities of Phuoc Nam commune are urging the completion of the construction of the last 4 houses in the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, increasing the number of newly built and repaired houses from this program to 9, helping 9 families have solid homes, gradually stabilize their lives, and escape poverty sustainably.
Implementing the project of rearranging commune-level administrative units, Phuoc Nam will merge with two communes Phuoc Minh and Phuoc Ninh and take the new name of Thuan Nam commune. It is believed that with this policy, Phuoc Nam will have more conditions to continue to develop, people's lives will be increasingly improved. The number of poor households continues to decrease, the number of well-off households increases, and the appearance of the countryside is increasingly changing.
