On December 24, the Russian Defense Ministry admitted to successfully attacking Ukrainian military facilities in various regions of the country. The Russian military announced that there were major attacks on Ukrainian military airports in the Dnieper, Khmelnitsky and Kirovograd regions.
On December 23 alone, launchers of the mobile air defense missile systems NASAMS (Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) and the French Crotale-NG were hit at the Starokonstantinov airfield in the Khmelnitsky region. Aviation equipment, flight guidance equipment and ammunition were hit at the Kanatovo airport in the Kirovograd region and the Dnepr airport in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In addition, the personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were attacked by Russia in 127 districts. For example, the ammunition depot of the 113th Brigade of the Territorial Defense of Ukraine was destroyed in the Liptsy area of the Kharkiv region.
Another victory for the Russian military on December 24 was the interception of four more Ukrainian aircraft by Russian air defense forces. These included three Su-27s and one Su-24 of the Ukrainian Air Force shot down over the settlements of Shirakoe and Odarovka in the Zaporizhia region, and the Grigorovka was also shot down by Russia in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to the Russian military, in addition to losses in equipment, Ukraine's human resources also suffered heavy losses with 750 soldiers killed or wounded. Specifically, more than 40 soldiers were killed or wounded in the Kupyansk direction, up to 100 soldiers in the Krasny Liman area, up to 350 soldiers in the Donetsk direction, up to 110 soldiers in the southern Donetsk direction, up to 80 soldiers in the Kherson region, and up to 70 soldiers were killed or wounded in the Zaporozhie region.
The outskirts of Donetsk remain one of the hottest battlefields of the war. Russian troops are taking the military initiative, advancing in different directions around Bakhmut, encircling Avdeevka and expanding their control around Mariinka. Retreating Ukrainian units are suffering the heaviest losses in this area.
