Report on October 16 losses of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk direction

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on October 16 that the Sever Forces Group of the Russian Army inflicted heavy losses on a number of units of the Kiev forces while conducting offensive operations in the direction of Kursk.

In its daily summary, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the 22nd, 41st, 47th, 115th Mechanized Brigades; 17th Tank Brigade; 82nd, 95th Air Assault Brigades; 36th Marine Brigade and the 103rd, 129th Territorial Defense Brigades of Ukraine suffered losses near the settlements of Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Novy Put, Novoivanovka and Plyokhovo.

The Russian Defense Ministry statement also said that the Sever Group of Forces repelled nine counterattacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Zeleny Shlyakh, Lyubimovka, Nizhny Klin, Novoivanovka and Plyokhovo.

“As a result, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 70 servicemen killed and wounded, one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, seven armored fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles,” the Russian Defense Ministry detailed in the summary.

The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that Russian air and artillery strikes hit troop concentrations of the 22nd, 41st, 61st, and 115th Mechanized Brigades; the 17th Tank Brigade; the 36th Marine Brigade; the 82nd and 95th Air Assault Brigades; the 1st National Guard Brigade, as well as the 103rd and 129th Territorial Defense Brigades.

Military gatherings of Kiev forces were targeted near the settlements of Aleksandria, Gogolevka, Daryino, Zeleny Shlyakh, Kruglenkoye, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Plyokhovo, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, Staraya Sorochina and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, other Russian airstrikes also targeted reservists of the 21st, 41st, 47th and 115th Mechanized Brigades; 95th Air Assault Brigade; 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 101st, 103rd and 129th Territorial Defense Brigades near the settlements of Belovody, Volnaya Sloboda, Zhuravka, Katerinovka, Kislaya Dubina, Luzhki, Miropolye, Pavlovka, Sosnovka, Topolya, Esman and Yunakovka in Ukraine's Sumy region, bordering Kursk.

"During the day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than 350 servicemen; 21 armored vehicles, including two tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, 16 armored fighting vehicles; five mortars and seven vehicles," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Russian media also released videos showing part of the Sever Forces Group's offensive operations in Kursk as well as recent airstrikes against Kiev forces in the same direction.

Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy to Kursk in August. Russian troops are now launching a counter-offensive. So far, more than a dozen settlements have been liberated.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the start of the battle for Kursk, Kiev forces have lost 23,550 troops, 160 tanks, 75 infantry fighting vehicles, 100 armored personnel carriers, 934 armored fighting vehicles, 639 motor vehicles, 189 guns, 37 launchers, 48 ​​electronic warfare stations, nine counter-battery radars, three airborne radars, 22 engineering vehicles.
