Quang Tri comprehensively assesses the situation of attracting investment to economic zones

On July 18th, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien chaired a meeting with the Management Board of the Provincial Economic Zone to assess the progress of projects in industrial parks and economic zones; and to discuss solutions to overcome difficulties and accelerate the adjustment of the boundaries and general planning for the construction of the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone.

According to a report by the Quang Tri Economic Zone Management Board, in recent years, Quang Tri province has focused on planning and investing in the development of economic zones and industrial parks to attract investment resources and promote sustainable development.

Currently, the province has two important border economic zones: the Cha Lo Border Economic Zone (53,923 ha), established in 2002 with a general plan approved in 2014; and the Lao Bao Special Trade Economic Zone (15,804 ha), whose plan was adjusted in 2011.

In addition, Quang Tri has two coastal economic zones: Hon La Economic Zone (covering 10,467 hectares, including 1,100 hectares of coastal sea surface), established in 2009 and first revised in 2024; and Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone (covering 23,792 hectares), established in 2015 and approved in 2016.

The province has 15 industrial parks with a total area of over 3,500 hectares. Of these, 6 industrial parks are having their infrastructure developed using government funds, 7 industrial parks have their infrastructure developed by private investors, and 4 industrial parks are basically 100% occupied.

At the meeting, representatives from relevant departments and agencies focused on discussing and proposing solutions to remove obstacles related to zoning plans, detailed planning, reviewing and adjusting planning projects; and accelerating the progress of key and strategic projects.

In particular, many opinions suggested that the Provincial People's Committee continue to decisively direct the compensation and land clearance work for large projects such as: My Thuy Port Area, Quang Tri Industrial Park, Hai Lang LNG project phase 1, Trieu Phu multi-sector industrial park; and at the same time, request relevant departments and agencies to expedite the appraisal and approval of procedures for land lease, conversion of forest land use, construction permits, electricity supply, and fire prevention and control.

Representatives from the Economic Zone Management Board also requested that the province promptly work with central ministries and agencies to resolve difficulties related to planning, mineral exploitation licensing, waste disposal sites, supplementing electricity planning, supporting the completion of planning adjustment documents, establishing new resettlement areas, and creating favorable conditions to attract investment and promote sustainable socio-economic development.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien directed the Management Board of the Economic Zone and relevant departments and agencies to continue reviewing and selecting key projects with high spillover effects, and to complete the infrastructure in a synchronous and modern manner. In addition, the adjustment of the planning for the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone must ensure overall coherence and alignment with the province's long-term development orientation.
