Quang Tri: Continuously cracking down on smuggling cases of large value

(Chinhphu.vn) - Since mid-May, the police and border guards of Quang Tri province have continuously detected many smuggling cases, demonstrating their determination in the peak period of fighting smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods.

Quang Tri police seized a shipment of smuggled goods on the evening of June 4.

On the night of June 4 alone, authorities in Quang Tri province discovered and arrested three cases of smuggling and contraband goods with a total value of nearly 1 billion VND.

Specifically, according to information from the Economic Police Department, Quang Tri Provincial Police, at about 8:10 p.m. on June 4, at Km 9 of National Highway 9, through the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway intersection with National Highway 9, in Nam Hieu village, Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, the authorities inspected a car with license plate 29D-234.20.

The inspection discovered that the vehicle was transporting 45 bottles of Chivas Regal 25 years old, 54 bottles of Royal Salute 21 and 6,000 packs of Esse cigarettes. The total value of the shipment was estimated at about 450 million VND. The entire shipment had no invoices or documents proving its origin, and the driver fled the scene.

Just a few minutes later, at around 8:20 p.m. at Km10 of National Highway 9, in Vinh An village, Cam Hieu commune, the working group continued to inspect a car with license plate 74D-002.01 driven by Tran Dang Khoa (born in 1998, Dong Ha city). On board were 54 bottles of Chivas 12, 60 bottles of Jagermeister, 1,500 packs of Jet cigarettes and 6 Panasonic air conditioners, with a total value of about 200 million VND. The driver could not present any invoices or documents.

At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, the authorities continued to inspect the car with license plate 43D-007.39 driven by Dieu Duc Trung (born in 1991, Dong Ha City), which was carrying Tran Dinh Phi (born in 1995, Dong Ha City). Upon inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle was transporting 60 bottles of Royal Salute 21 wine, 4,000 bottles of Heineken beer and 3,000 packs of Jet cigarettes. All of the goods did not have legal documents and were estimated to be worth around VND250 million.

Through initial verification, the above shipments were all smuggled goods, transported from Lao Bao area to Dong Ha city for consumption. Currently, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency has temporarily detained three related subjects for further investigation and clarification.

Quang Tri authorities are tightening inspections of consumer goods, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and goods that affect public health.

Border Guard: Stopping many cases of smuggling goods in border areas

Meanwhile, since May 15, the Border Guard of Quang Tri province has also been carrying out a high-profile campaign to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods along the entire border. As a result, the border guards have detected and handled 12 cases with 13 violators. The seized exhibits include: 2,700 kg of sugar, 4,250 packs of foreign cigarettes, 1,000 bottles of energy drinks, 200 kg of MSG, 600 kg of pig organs of unknown origin. The total value of the violated goods is about 166 million VND.

Typically, on the evening of May 22, in Lao Bao town (Huong Hoa district), Lao Bao International Border Guard Station coordinated with functional forces to discover Mr. Nguyen Van Sam (born in 1996, residing in Hue City) transporting 600 kg of animal organs of unknown origin. The functional forces drew up a record of administrative violations and proceeded to destroy all the goods.

Also in Tan Long commune, Huong Hoa district, the Border Guard discovered Nguyen Quoc Cuong (born in 1973, residing in Dong Ha city), Le Thi Thuy (born in 1976, residing in Trieu Phong district), along with Nguyen Thi Tuy and Nguyen Thi Thu (both born in 1971, residing in Lao Bao town) transporting 1,100 packs of cigarettes of unknown origin. In addition, the authorities also discovered two more cases of transporting 2,400 packs of foreign cigarettes whose owners could not be identified.

Quang Tri Border Guard said that during this peak period, the unit has closely coordinated with relevant agencies to strengthen control at key areas such as Lao Bao International Border Gate, Huong Phung, Thuan, Thanh, Ba Nang, Cua Tung and Cua Viet Port.

Authorities are tightening inspections of consumer goods, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and goods that affect public health, while fiercely fighting against prohibited goods such as drugs, firecrackers, cigarettes, gold, currency, etc.
