Que Son promotes the role of the elderly

In recent years, the elderly association at all levels in Que Son district has widely implemented the emulation movement "Old age - bright example" and made efforts to take care of the lives of members.

In 2024, Que Son district will implement the Go Cuon bridge construction project (Thach Thuong village, Que Phong commune). This is a long-awaited bridge for the people. However, due to limited capital, the project does not have funds for compensation and site clearance.

When the local government came to mobilize, Mr. Vo Van Dinh (64 years old, Thach Thuong village) took the lead in donating 437 ^{square meters} of land and felling acacia trees that had been planted for 2 years to build a bridge.

From his example, 6 households whose land was affected by the project followed suit and donated more than ^900m2 of land and many trees and crops, thanks to which the Go Cuon bridge was quickly constructed. Not only that, Mr. Vo Van Dinh also voluntarily donated nearly ^200m2 of land to build concrete roads in the fields in Thach Thuong village.

Mr. Ngo Tan Anh - Head of the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly (NCT) of Que Son district said that in the past 5 years, the elderly in communes and towns have promoted the spirit of "Old age - bright example" by voluntarily donating nearly 20,000 ^square meters of land, contributing more than 1,900 working days and 132 million VND to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas.

Not only that, the elderly also actively participate in local activities. Currently, the district has 527 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, government, front, and grassroots organizations. There are 1,273 elderly people participating in the movement to encourage learning and talent and mobilize nearly 1,300 gifts for students who overcome difficulties and excel in their studies.

In economic development, the whole district currently has 431 elderly people recognized as good producers and traders at the provincial, district and communal levels. In addition, the models of "Association with no children violating the law", "3 self-governing, self-protecting and self-defending elderly people"... have been built and maintained effectively... Up to now, the whole district has more than 13,000 elderly people achieving the title of "Old age - shining example" at all levels.

In recent years, the work of caring for the lives of the elderly has received special attention. Associations at all levels have proactively reviewed and compiled a list of elderly people in difficult circumstances, without support, and who are often sick to help. During the period of 2021 - 2025, 2,427 gifts, 7 gratitude houses, and 135 savings books were mobilized to support elderly people in difficult circumstances with a total cost of 720 million VND.

Coordinated health check-ups for 3,500 elderly people, free eye surgery for 368 elderly people, organized birthday celebrations according to regulations. In addition, the association at all levels has also built 55 health clubs, 22 volleyball clubs, 7 chess clubs, 8 poetry clubs to create a vibrant and useful playground to help the elderly live happily and healthily.

In particular, the district has established 21 intergenerational self-help clubs in communes and towns. These clubs have performed well in organizing health care activities, increasing income, improving spiritual life, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of members and promoting the role of the elderly in social activities.
