NDO - On May 13, at the review meeting of the first months of 2025, musician Dinh Trung Can - General Director of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection shared that in the first quarter of 2025, this unit collected 85 billion VND in royalties.

As of May 2025, the number of musicians authorizing the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection to collect music copyright fees increased to 6,720 people, an increase of 400 people compared to the same period last year.

Most of the music authors who registered to become members and sent their works to the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center during this time were young musicians and authors. This shows that the center has increasingly affirmed its position, becoming a trusted address for authors to send their works of art.

Currently, the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center collects 20% of the total royalties collected, with authors receiving 80%. However, in the near future, the center is trying to reduce the rate for the center to 17-18% in order to pay the maximum benefits to authors.

Regarding the current collection of music copyright fees, a representative of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection shared that units using background music have become more aware of asking for permission from the right copyright owner.

However, there are still some units that react in a negative way, commit long-term violations, intentionally misunderstand the property rights of copyright owners, in order to attract channels, creators, and content producers into their multi-channel network system; arbitrarily commit to copyright protection to systematically violate.

Many people take advantage of the platform's mechanisms and tools to avoid paying royalties, while illegally profiting and depriving authors of their legitimate interests; in addition, they also defame the reputation of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection, affecting the unit's operations.

In the coming time, the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection will increase support for authors to review their works, especially in copyright protection. The Center will reclaim the rights for authors if there are transactions or if the cooperation has expired, in order to ensure the rights and maximum exploitation of copyright for authors, avoiding damage or exploitation.

The Center will also assist with legal issues regarding representation, inheritance, and copyright disputes.
