Recently, the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, the Party Committee of the People - Government - Party Bloc of Ho Chi Minh City and the National Political Publishing House Truth organized a discussion, exchange and introduction of the work "Resolutely and persistently fighting against corruption and negativity, contributing to building our Party and State increasingly clean and strong" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At the seminar on the book by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, speakers discussed the current work of preventing corruption and negativity.

Former Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Pham Phuong Thao reviewed some results of anti-corruption and negativity in recent times: Detecting and disciplining 2,740 Party organizations, 167,700 Party members; of which 190 are under central management, 50 are generals. To prevent corruption and negativity, the Party has issued 250 documents, the National Assembly has issued nearly 300 legal documents and ordinances, and the Government has issued about 20 decrees. The work of anti-corruption and negativity has gradually expanded beyond the state sector.

Ms. Pham Phuong Thao said that to effectively carry out the work of preventing corruption and negativity, first of all, it is necessary to have correct and complete awareness, turn awareness into action, high determination, and drastic action under the centralized leadership of the Party.

Accordingly, it is necessary to persistently pursue the work of preventing corruption and negativity because this is difficult to do in a short time. Next, it is necessary to do a good job of personnel work, from evaluating, selecting, arranging to handling cadres as well as closely combining with prevention, considering this as a fundamental, long-term task for timely correction. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on controlling power.

"How to control well because power is always at risk of being corrupted. Corruption and negativity are defects of power; it is necessary to control by mechanisms, responsibilities and training, practice and set an example for cadres. It is necessary to promote the core role of the anti-corruption and negativity force; must have enough courage to detect and handle corrupt acts. At the same time, link anti-corruption and negativity with Party building and rectification" - Ms. Pham Phuong Thao emphasized.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Tinh, former Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU-HCM, anti-corruption and anti-negativity activities will be most effective when they become a revolutionary movement of the masses. For this activity to become a revolutionary movement of the masses, it is necessary to first focus on propaganda and education in a systematic, fundamental, deep and broad manner; it is necessary to make the people understand and correctly and sufficiently identify corruption.

Any leaders and managers who show signs of harassment, extortion, or causing trouble for people and businesses need to be promptly dealt with and replaced, creating absolute trust among the people in the work of preventing corruption and negativity.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, in charge of the Party Committee of the People - Government - Party Bloc of Ho Chi Minh City, in order to achieve good results in the work of preventing corruption and negativity, units need to promote propaganda and research on the theoretical value and practical significance of the General Secretary's work; affirming that preventing corruption and negativity is a necessary and inevitable task, an irreversible trend.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of resolutions, directives, regulations of the Party and policies and laws of the State on anti-corruption, practicing thrift, and combating waste to proactively prevent corruption, prevent degradation in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle among cadres and Party members...
