Determined to surprise a formidable opponent

For U.19 Vietnam, the match against U.19 Australia is decisive for the ticket to the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian U.19 tournament. Coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team need to get a favorable result against the kangaroo team, in order to compete for the top spot in Group B, or at least to have hope of advancing to the next round.

The match between U.19 Vietnam and U.19 Australia will take place at 3:00 p.m. today (July 21, Vietnam time), at Gelora 10 November Stadium (in Surabaya City, Indonesia).

As in the opening match on July 18 (played in the evening, at 7:30 p.m.), both U.19 Vietnam and U.19 Myanmar had to play under poor lighting conditions at Gelora 10 November Stadium. This also somewhat affected the quality of the match. In the second match against U.19 Australia, U.19 Vietnam still had to play at Gelora 10 November Stadium. However, the match took place early (at 3 p.m.), so it would be more convenient for both teams.

After the first round of matches, the U.19 Australia team is leading Group B with 3 points, goal difference +6. U.19 Vietnam and U.19 Myanmar share 2nd and 3rd place with 1 point and goal difference 0. U.19 Laos is at the bottom of the table with no points, goal difference -6.

Group B standings after the first round of matches

According to the regulations of the 2024 Southeast Asian U.18 tournament, the 3 group winners and the second-placed team with the best results will advance to the semi-finals. Group B of U.19 Vietnam is considered quite balanced, with 2 strong teams. Therefore, the second-placed team in Group B will find it difficult to compete with the second-placed teams in Groups A and B. Therefore, coach Hua Hien Vinh and his team need to win against U.19 Australia to have a chance to continue. However, this is not an easy task for U.19 Vietnam, as kangaroo football has always shown superiority over representatives in the Southeast Asian region.
