Vietnam Mathematical Festival (VNMF) is an activity under the national key program for Mathematics development in the period 2021 - 2030 (Math Program) of the Ministry of Education and Training, organized by the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics - the permanent unit coordinating the implementation of the Math program.
VNMF is a national academic playground for students from grades 1 to 12, organized to carry out the tasks of "Supporting the implementation of the 2018 general education program in Mathematics" and "Supporting talent training and improving the quality of human resources in the Mathematics industry" of the Mathematics Program.
VNMF was built with the mission of creating a positive, creative, and highly communal Math learning space. This is not only an educational activity but also a movement to spread the love of Math to all classes of students, from urban to rural, from mountainous to island areas, so that any student can participate, from good students to students who are not confident with Math.
At the same time, arouse love and interest in Mathematics, through a gamified exam format that combines creative activities and encourages discovery instead of score pressure; Help students develop logical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and creativity in Mathematics, so that each student can explore Mathematics in their own way; Access modern educational technology, practice digital skills, self-study through exams on the VNMF platform; Detect and nurture students with Math talent early, creating a source of students for national and international excellent student exams.
Within the framework of the event, the discussion "Innovation in the culture of teaching and learning Mathematics" had the participation of experts in the field of Mathematics such as: Prof. Dr. Ngo Bao Chau, University of Chicago & Scientific Director of VIASM; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, Vice President of Hanoi National University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Luong, Former Principal of High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ton Than, Former Head of Mathematics - Information Technology Department, Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences.
The seminar is a space to connect educators, experts, and researchers in Mathematics to discuss new trends in teaching and learning Mathematics, the roles of teachers and students in modern classrooms, as well as the potential of applying technology and artificial intelligence to personalize each learner's Mathematics learning journey. This is an opportunity for the Vietnamese teacher and student community to deeply review the "Culture of Teaching and Learning Mathematics", which has not been properly named but strongly influences the way students approach this subject.
