After New Year's Eve, the area of Bach Dang Wharf Park (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) and Ton Duc Thang Street - the intersection with Nguyen Hue Flower Street - was filled with garbage left by people watching fireworks.
At Bach Dang Wharf Park (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), there is a spontaneous tarpaulin rental service for 20,000 VND per tarpaulin for those who want to "reserve" a good spot to watch the fireworks. However, after the meaningful New Year's Eve moment, many people left behind the plastic tarpaulin, food, and drinks they brought earlier.
According to Dan Tri reporters, right after the fireworks display ended, a large crowd of people stood up and left, leaving behind countless plastic sheets scattered everywhere. Interspersed with all kinds of trash such as plastic cups, styrofoam boxes, water bottles, etc.
Inside Bach Dang Wharf Park, garbage is strewn everywhere. The park’s green grass is covered with plastic sheets.
Many people leave leftover food behind, turning one of the best places to watch fireworks every holiday into a place covered in trash.
Instead of going home right away, Ms. Thu Quyen (in Binh Thanh District) stayed at the park to have fun, but had to shake her head in disappointment because now all around her was garbage and bad smells.
''I planned to stay with my children to get some fresh air before going to the temple, but I was surrounded by trash and stench, including the smell of beer, alcohol and pet urine,'' said Thu Quyen.
Along Bach Dang Wharf Park is flooded with garbage, people and tourists have no choice but to step on the garbage to walk.
Sanitation workers immediately started cleaning up to restore the beauty of the city on the first day of Tet, but due to the large amount of trash, which spread across the entire walking street, the cleaning process took a long time.
"Every year, when big holidays and Tet come around, this situation repeats itself. If everyone is self-aware, it will be much easier for us," said an environmental worker.
Garbage even spread from Bach Dang wharf park area to Ton Duc Thang street. Tarps were scattered everywhere, obstructing traffic. The tarps even covered the dividing fence.
A series of items, food... were thrown haphazardly along the median fence on Ton Duc Thang Street.
Most of the trash here is plastic sheets or paper, foam used to sit on to watch fireworks. Some are water bottles, cake wrappers, etc. All are thrown haphazardly on the street, stretching from the Saigon River to the beginning of Nguyen Hue Street. With such a large amount of trash, many cleaning staff had to continuously clean for many hours to restore the beauty of Ben Bach Dang Park and Nguyen Hue Street on the first day of Tet.
