Robot playing ancient musical instrument causes a stir at the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games in China. |
On the evening of November 9, the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games took place at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center, Guangzhou City (China). In the art performance, the appearance of humanoid robots playing ancient bronze instruments made a strong impression on domestic and foreign audiences.
According to the video released by CCTV, these robots performed a musical performance using the “Gou Diao,” a bronze musical instrument with a history of thousands of years, often used in ancient royal court ceremonies. This musical instrument is a symbol of southern culture, expressing the spirit of harmony between tradition and modernity.
During the performance, robots slowly tapped on a set of bronze instruments, recreating the resounding sounds of ancient times, combined with a traditional orchestra and modern lighting, creating a moment of intersection between technology and cultural heritage.
In addition, the performance clearly highlighted the theme of Technology and Dreams of this year's opening ceremony, showing how China integrates traditional cultural elements into high-tech performances. Bringing robots to the stage is a new step in applying AI to performing arts, and at the same time demonstrates the country's ambition in developing humanoid robots.
China previously made headlines when the Kuavo robot, developed by Leju Robotics, joined the torch relay in Shenzhen on November 2. The robot can run, balance, and transmit signals via 5G-A networks during its mission. Kuavo’s appearance at the opening ceremony is an extension of its strategy to promote domestic technological capabilities.
The 15th National Games of China brought together more than 12,000 athletes from all provinces and cities, taking place in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This is the largest-scale sports event in China, held every four years, to select the country's outstanding athletes and encourage the spirit of national sports.
