Prensa Latina's new publication "Fidel Castro - For Vietnam, willing to give all my blood!" collects documents and articles about Leader Fidel's visit to Vietnam 50 years ago. |
According to a VNA correspondent in Havana, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of leader Fidel Castro's visit to Vietnam and the newly liberated area in Quang Tri (September 1973 - September 2023), Prensa Latina News Agency introduced to readers the book "Fidel Castro - For Vietnam, willing to give all blood! (Fidel Castro - Nuestra Sangre Por Vietnam)."
The book launch ceremony took place on September 13 at the headquarters of Prensa Latina News Agency in the capital Havana with the presence of Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung and many Cuban scholars, intellectuals and friends who love Vietnam.
This is one of a series of activities held in both countries to commemorate the historic event that marked an important milestone in Vietnam-Cuba relations, when Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro became the first and only leader in the world to visit Quang Tri in 1973, a newly liberated area in South Vietnam, despite the dangers of American bombs that were always lurking in this area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prensa Latina President Luis Enrique González Acosta emphasized that the book is the result of cooperation between the agency and Vietnam News Agency.
The 76-page publication includes many unpublished or little-known articles by veteran Cuban journalists, revealing valuable details about leader Fidel Castro's visit to Vietnam, the steadfast affection of the Cuban people in general, and the Cuban leader in particular, for Vietnam during the difficult moments of the resistance war against the US to save the country.
The book is printed in 4 colors, presented in Spanish and English and uses many photos from Vietnam News Agency.
Attending the book launch, former Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Fredesmán Turró González recounted the stages in the journey of the Cuban revolutionary leader.
The diplomat who served as Cuban Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam twice (1999-2004 and 2008-2013) described the moment when leader Fidel Castro reunited with the Vietnamese people as extraordinary, fulfilling the long-standing wishes of both sides.
Journalist Jorge Luna, co-author of the book (with journalist Víctor Carriba), highlights the significance of leader Fidel's visit to Vietnam.
Leader Fidel's visit to the newly liberated area of South Vietnam was a great source of encouragement and motivation for the Vietnamese army and people, and at the same time created a great resonance promoting the global solidarity movement with this Asian country.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung said that many activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of leader Fidel's first visit to Vietnam are also being held on the other side of the world with very special feelings.
Ambassador Le Thanh Tung thanked the Cuban people for their valuable support to Vietnam both during the fierce war and in the country's reconstruction later on.
According to Mr. Le Thanh Tung, the book “Fidel Castro - For Vietnam, willing to give all blood! (Fidel Castro - Nuestra Sangre Por Vietnam)” helps young Cubans and Vietnamese people better understand the efforts of their ancestors to build and nurture this friendship over time, passed down from generation to generation.
Ambassador Le Thanh Tung highly appreciated the close cooperation between Vietnam News Agency and Prensa Latina, and thanked Ocean Press for cooperating in implementing this project, contributing to further strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Previously, the News Publishing House (Vietnam News Agency) also introduced to readers the bilingual Vietnamese - Spanish version of the book "Fidel Castro - Nuestra Sangre Por Vietnam" (Fidel Castro - Nuestra Sangre Por Vietnam), helping readers better understand the context, as well as the preparations for Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro's visit to Quang Tri, his iron determination to visit the newly liberated area in South Vietnam, even though the area was still being plowed by bombs and bullets.
Readers will understand more about his feelings for the country and the Vietnamese people, as well as his special feelings for the great leader of the Vietnamese nation - President Ho Chi Minh, the leader of the Vietnamese people, whom he admired, respected, and regretted never having the chance to meet in person.
The presence of leader Fidel Castro in Vietnam 50 years ago, in September 1973, while the resistance war against the US was still raging fiercely on all fronts, was not only an act of courage, but also a call for the international community to know about the liberation cause of the heroic Vietnamese people, and at the same time expressed the solidarity of the Cuban Government and people with that just struggle.
