In early August 2025, during the 8th inspection of the actual progress of the Long Thanh International Airport Project, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: Completing the project and putting it into operation early has many important meanings, affirming the mettle and confidence in overcoming difficulties and challenges of the relevant entities; proving the strength of the Ministry of Construction , the Project Management Board, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), investors, contractors, consultants; improving investment efficiency; contributing to creating jobs and livelihoods for people, promoting growth; proving that "nothing is impossible", the problem is whether or not there is determination and knowing how to do it in implementing the work.

"Sweet fruit" from synchronous coordination

To carry out the site clearance work for the construction of Long Thanh Airport, Dong Nai province has planned 2 resettlement areas for households in the project area including: Loc An - Binh Son resettlement area and subdivision III, Binh Son resettlement area. However, during the implementation process, households registered for resettlement in subdivision III, Binh Son resettlement area wished to move to Loc An - Binh Son resettlement area. Realizing that the needs and desires of the households are legitimate, the province has proposed the Central Government to allow the adjustment of the planning of Loc An - Binh Son resettlement area to arrange resettlement for all households in the Long Thanh Airport Project area as well as 2 traffic routes connecting to the airport.

After being approved by the National Assembly and the Government, Dong Nai province has determined the needs and land area for resettlement in the Loc An - Binh Son resettlement area and proactively adjusted the detailed construction planning. Accordingly, the number of resettlement land lots in the Loc An - Binh Son resettlement area was adjusted to increase from 5,002 lots to 7,035 lots, ensuring enough space for households wishing to relocate from subdivision III, Binh Son resettlement area as well as the project of 2 airport connection routes (T1, T2) to this resettlement area.

ACV has submitted a report to the Government, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction on the implementation of investment in the construction of the third runway and phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport Project in accordance with legal regulations.

Comrade Vu Hong Van, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, said: Dong Nai Province, with the highest political determination, has completed the compensation and support work for more than 7,200 households and 18 organizations whose land was recovered in the Long Thanh Airport Project area. At the same time, resettlement arrangements were made for 5,793 households, and 100% of the land was handed over to the investor with a total area of ​​about 5,000 hectares to implement the Long Thanh Airport Project.

In May 2025, right after the construction of the second runway of Long Thanh Airport began, the demand for construction stone for the Long Thanh Airport Project Phase 1 increased by about 0.6 million m3 compared to the demand that the units had previously registered. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction and ACV requested the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to consider and support the provision of additional construction stone volume to serve the construction of the second runway. In response to this urgent need, the Provincial People's Committee directed the competent authorities to review and allocate supply from quarries to meet the project's needs. Less than 2 months later, the allocation of additional stone volume for the project was completed, thereby meeting the demand for construction stone to ensure the project's progress.

As the country’s largest-scale construction investment project to date, and with high technical and aesthetic requirements, the construction process of the Long Thanh Airport Project requires a very high level of coordination between units to avoid “conflicts” during the construction process. Therefore, the early completion of the project is a “vivid” demonstration of synchronization in direction and close coordination in construction.

In fact, the project implementation process has shown that the "acceleration" in the progress of the Long Thanh Airport Project is the "sweet fruit" coming from the synchronous coordination from the Central to the local level, between the investor and the construction contractors in the site clearance work as well as the construction of the project's works.

In March 2025, during the 7th inspection of the project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Dong Nai province for completing the project site clearance. This is an important basis for investors and contractors to work overtime to speed up construction progress and shorten the project completion time.

During the inspection and working trip on the Long Thanh Airport Project on November 13, 2025, General Secretary To Lam assessed: In the past time, the units have implemented the project well, many construction items have ensured progress. The General Secretary believes that under the leadership of the Party, the strong direction of the Government, the coordination of ministries, branches, localities, enterprises and the dedication of tens of thousands of workers, Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 will be completed on schedule, achieving international quality, absolute safety, becoming a symbol of modern, dynamic and sustainable Vietnam in the new period.

Long Thanh Airport - the "boost" of the century for development

With its scale, technology and strategic vision, Long Thanh Airport is not only a key infrastructure project but also a symbol of the aspiration to make Vietnam a new aviation transit hub in Southeast Asia.

According to General Secretary To Lam, Long Thanh Airport is a project symbolizing the country's development aspirations, and is also a national key project with large investment scale and capacity. When completed, the airport will make Vietnam one of the leading international air transit hubs in the Asia-Pacific region. To maximize the effectiveness and role of Long Thanh Airport, the General Secretary requested: All levels and sectors clearly define new directions and key tasks to be performed.

Specifically, it is necessary to evaluate the national, regional and international competitiveness. Ministries, sectors and investors must coordinate to develop a set of criteria to evaluate the international competitiveness of Long Thanh Airport. In particular, pay special attention to 3 factors: service quality, passenger experience; productivity, operational efficiency; connectivity level, transit capacity in the regional aviation network. The goal is for Long Thanh Airport to become the most attractive aviation destination in Southeast Asia, comparable to and surpassing leading airports.

With the basic determination to complete the Long Thanh Airport Project Phase 1 on December 19, 2025, inaugurate according to regulations, and proceed to commercial exploitation in early 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested: Ministries, branches, People's Committees of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, investors, contractors, consulting units, engineers, and workers who have tried, then try harder, who have tried, then try harder, who have made a determination, then try even harder, focus on fully and seriously implementing the conclusions and directions of the Prime Minister, and thoroughly completing the work.

The Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Finance and ACV continue to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the project, not only in terms of finance but also in terms of economic, social, environmental, defense and security efficiency. Development must be synchronous, regionally connected and build a new aviation ecosystem around the airport. Long Thanh Airport will only be truly effective when the transportation, service, urban, tourism and logistics systems are organized synchronously and modernly. At the same time, it is necessary to invest in a multi-modal connection infrastructure network, especially between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh Airport. A modern aviation service ecosystem, including accommodation, hotels, conference centers, etc., needs to be built synchronously, towards forming a "Long Thanh Airport City" to become the leading transit service and logistics center in Southeast Asia.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute and member of the Government Advisory Group, assessed: Long Thanh Airport has a very important mission, which is to connect Vietnam with the world to change the development position of Vietnam. Specifically, Long Thanh Airport will create great prospects and opportunities for the country's development breakthrough. It creates momentum and motivation for the country and the Ho Chi Minh City region to develop. With Long Thanh Airport, Vietnam has a new "coordinate" to realize in the international competition, changing the country's development position.

For Dong Nai province, Long Thanh Airport is identified as the "core" in the socio-economic development of the province in the coming time. The Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, orients Dong Nai to become a leading province in the development of aviation economy, high-tech industry, high-tech agriculture, logistics center, science, technology, innovation and digital transformation. With this goal, Long Thanh Airport has an extremely important position.

Comrade Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, assessed: Long Thanh Airport project will "open the sky" to make this place become a regional transit center, connecting Dong Nai with countries around the world. Long Thanh Airport is a national key project, ranked in the top 16 most anticipated airport projects in the world. When put into operation, the project is expected to contribute to Vietnam's GDP growth of 3-5%/year.

To maximize the effectiveness of the project, Dong Nai province has identified Long Thanh Airport as a new driving force for breakthrough development, striving to turn Dong Nai into a major hub for transportation and logistics. At the same time, exploit the potential and strengths of aviation economic development; attract high-tech industry and innovation.

“Dong Nai has implemented many tasks such as: planning the Long Thanh Airport area, building a connecting traffic system; planning the logistics system in the airport area to create a strong development momentum for the locality as well as the entire key economic region in the South” - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Vo Tan Duc said.

As the location of Long Thanh Airport, Long Thanh commune is also accelerating preparations for the necessary conditions to seize development opportunities when the project is officially put into operation. Chairman of Long Thanh Commune People's Committee Le Hoang Son said: One of the breakthrough tasks identified by Long Thanh commune in the new term is to focus on synchronous investment and modernization of inter-regional traffic infrastructure. At the same time, develop modern urban and commercial service areas around Long Thanh Airport, creating a breakthrough to soon turn Long Thanh commune into an urban area and develop sustainably.

Dr. Tran Du Lich, member of the National Monetary Policy Advisory Council, member of the Provincial Socio-Economic Advisory Group, said: When Dong Nai builds a free trade zone associated with Long Thanh Airport and Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port, it will create momentum for the locality to participate in the global value chain in all aspects, from production, trade, logistics services, finance, etc.
