On May 20, in Phuoc Thuan commune, Xuyen Moc district, the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province coordinated with Gemadept Joint Stock Company to organize a seminar on solutions to promote the flow of goods through Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area, with the participation of leaders of departments, branches, seaport and logistics enterprises.
Delegates attending the discussion expressed their opinions
At the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, said that seaports and port logistics services are one of the four key economic sectors of this province.
Over the past years, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province has always been proactive and actively coordinated with the Ministry of Transport , seaport associations, logistics associations and port operators, logistics enterprises and cargo owners to implement many solutions to improve the efficiency of exploitation and management of the seaport system, especially the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster.
Through seminars and conferences, the proposed solutions to attract goods to the port have brought about many positive results. The volume of goods passing through the province's seaport system in the period 2011 - 2021 has grown quite well, averaging over 20%.
However, in the period of 2021 - 2022, due to the serious impact of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the many fluctuations in the world economic and political situation, the volume of goods passing through the port was seriously affected. Especially in the first 3 months of 2023, the volume of goods passing through the Thi Vai - Cai Mep port cluster decreased by double digits (about 30%). This has greatly affected the socio-economic development goals of the province.
The seaports of Cai Mep - Thi Vai area are not long.
Ms. Pham Thi Bao Hanh, Deputy General Director of Vina Logistics Joint Stock Company, commented that the limitation of Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area is that the ports are scattered and limited in length.
Mr. Pham Quang Huy, a senior expert of Gemadept Group, assessed that the logistics service ecosystem has not been fully invested, making it difficult to reach customers and has not fully exploited natural advantages when the amount of international transit goods through Cai Mep - Thi Vai port is still low, only 5 - 10%.
Business representatives requested Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and central ministries to pay attention to sustainable development issues, develop a logistics ecosystem to serve seaports; maritime services, tourism, and e-commerce. At the same time, focus on the orientation of developing green ports and green logistics.

In addition, accelerate the planning of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai logistics ecosystem, build a specialized inspection center for Cai Mep - Thi Vai; inland waterway traffic routes need to be planned synchronously with the planning of international traffic routes; dredge and maintain routes to inland ports. Implement projects such as Road 991B, Phuoc An Bridge, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway project, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway, etc.
