To meet the increasing construction demand, the production and supply of construction materials (CMA) in recent years has developed strongly in terms of variety, quantity and quality.

According to statistics from the construction industry, the province has nearly 80 enterprises specializing in the production of construction materials in the fields of: fired clay bricks, unfired construction materials, construction glass, tiles, sanitary porcelain, commercial concrete, roofing materials and construction sand. Along with that, there are more than 100 enterprises specializing in trading construction materials and many construction material suppliers, distributed in almost all localities. This is a field with high production value, creating many jobs for local workers and providing essential raw materials for construction activities.

In the past 5 years, the construction materials industry in the province has had many remarkable changes. Many factories producing construction materials in product groups such as tiles and sanitary ware have been invested in depth, upgraded technology and applied modern technology. New technologies and advanced production lines help save raw materials, fuel and minimize environmental pollution during the production process. Construction materials products have gradually developed towards new features, are environmentally friendly and have competitive advantages in the market. Notably, many products have been exported with high economic value.

Tuan Thinh Phat Trading Service Company Limited (Hoang Hanh Commune, Hung Yen City) has been operating since 2010, specializing in the production of construction bricks. In 2024, the company invested in upgrading the production process with a new technology kiln, which is the optimal disc kiln, also known as the rotary kiln. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, Director of the company, said: Fuel prices account for up to 40% of the total cost of producing tunnel fired clay bricks. Brick factories today pay special attention to the issue of saving fuel and production materials. At the same time, modern science and technology are applied to meet the requirements of environmental protection and sustainable production. The disc kiln, or the rotary kiln, has both superior technology and a scientific construction structure, and is optimized to ensure the insulation efficiency of the kiln coal, avoiding heat loss to the environment.

The capacity of the disc kiln at Tuan Thinh Phat Trading Service Company Limited currently reaches 20-25 million bricks/year, one of the new technology brick kilns with the highest output in the province. Of which, 90% of finished products are grade 1, nearly 10% are grade 2 and only 0.1% of products are broken, this is also the most optimal production result at present, clearly demonstrating the success of applying advanced technology in the production of construction materials in the province.

In addition to the proactive innovation of enterprises and construction material production facilities, suppliers and traders are also constantly innovating and expanding the market. Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan, owner of a business specializing in trading and transporting high-quality construction materials in Tran Cao town (Phu Cu) shared: In response to market demand, in the past 4 years, I have shifted my business activities to high-quality construction materials such as exterior construction materials, interior materials, glazed tiles, ceramic tiles, and sanitary porcelain. Customers increasingly demand high-quality products that are durable, beautiful, safe, and environmentally friendly. In addition to supplying construction projects in the province, the company's products are also supplied in the provinces of Hai Duong, Thai Binh , Ha Nam, etc.

Construction projects today require large volumes of construction materials, while also placing strict quality requirements. Meeting standards of durability, aesthetics and environmental friendliness is becoming a decisive factor in the choice of contractors and consumers.

On December 29, 2021, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 3057/QD-UBND approving the Project on Development of Construction Materials in Hung Yen Province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. The objective of the project is to focus on investing and developing construction materials products with the province's strengths, researching and developing diverse production of new construction materials products with high economic efficiency. The project also emphasizes the application of advanced and modern technology to the production of construction materials to improve productivity and product quality, meet the needs of the domestic market, the region and export; completely eliminate outdated construction materials production technology, consume a lot of resources and cause environmental pollution.

According to the assessment of the Department of Construction, construction material manufacturing enterprises in the province have gradually eliminated outdated production technology, which consumes a lot of resources and pollutes the environment. For example, the technology of producing fired clay bricks such as Hoffman kilns and continuous vertical kilns has been replaced by new technology such as mobile flat-ceiling tunnel kilns and mobile rotating tunnel kilns. By 2009, the province had eliminated more than 500 manual brick kilns and built a roadmap to end the production of fired clay bricks using outdated technology. The province has also encouraged enterprises to develop the production of unburnt construction materials to replace fired clay bricks, not to invest in new or expand production of asbestos-cement roofing sheets and requires existing production facilities to have a plan to convert technology. Strict management of agricultural land and strict prohibition of exploiting clay from agricultural land for brick and tile production have also been implemented drastically.

In order to improve the effectiveness of quality management of construction material products in the province, the reception of dossiers for declaration of construction material products is strictly implemented by the functional sector and competent authorities according to the regulations of the Ministry of Construction, including the standards: QCVN 16:2017/BXD and QCVN 16:2019/BXD. The inspection and supervision of the quality of construction material products are regularly carried out by the functional sector during the production process, when circulating on the market and used in construction works. Currently, the province has built and maintained 10 specialized construction laboratories that are granted codes, scopes and fields of specialized construction testing according to regulations, ensuring specialized inspection of construction material products.
Comrade Cao Quang Hung, Director of the Department of Construction, commented: The production and supply of construction materials is increasingly affirming its importance in infrastructure development and construction investment in the province. To develop the construction materials industry, it is necessary to promote the implementation of policies to support enterprises investing in the production of high-tech construction materials, especially the production of construction materials from scrap and auxiliary materials to save fuel, reduce production costs, and reduce product prices. Manufacturing enterprises need to proactively innovate technological lines, prioritize environmentally friendly products, research and develop construction materials suitable for modern construction technology, contributing to increasing labor productivity and reducing construction costs.
