TPO - On October 20, Cu Khe Primary School, Binh Minh Commune (Hanoi) had 183 students absent for various reasons. This school plans to reopen its kitchen from October 27, however, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires that meals be provided for boarding students tomorrow (October 21).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam, Principal of Cu Khe Primary School, Binh Minh Commune (Hanoi) said that after terminating the contract with Nhat Anh Import Export Trading and Service Company Limited because of the discovery of "unusual smelling" meat and quail eggs brought into the kitchen, on October 20, the school organized teaching according to the school year's education plan.

Regarding lunch, the school organizes two options: students are picked up by their parents or their lunch is brought to them.

Today, 1,335 students came to school, reaching 88%, 12% of students were absent. The reasons for the 183 students being absent were many, including: poor health, parents not being able to pick up and drop off their children, some parents not being able to prepare lunch for their children according to the school's announcement...).

According to Ms. Nam’s report, out of the more than 1,300 students who came to school today, 497 had their lunch prepared by their families at school. The rest of the students were dismissed at 10:30 to go home to eat and rest.

Regarding the solution to the problem of providing meals for boarding students, the school said that the unit is implementing new bidding procedures to continue operating the kitchen and providing meals for boarding students in the 2025-2026 school year.

Not decisively handling violations

It is known that in the 2025-2025 school year, Cu Khe Primary School will organize boarding meals for students in the form of a company providing full meals from food supply to meal processing.

Accordingly, every morning Nhat Anh Import Export Trading and Service Company Limited will transport food to the school and bring it to the kitchen. In the kitchen, the staff will prepare, cook and divide the food into each class under the management and supervision of Cu Khe Primary School.

However, on October 15, parents discovered that Nhat Anh Company was smuggling spoiled meat and smelly quail eggs into the kitchen. At that time, parents asked the company to immediately change the products to prepare lunch for students.

It is worth mentioning that at the meeting between the relevant parties, although Mr. Phan Duc Long, Director of Nhat Anh Import Export Trading and Service Company Limited, admitted many violations in the food safety assurance process such as: food not being vacuum-sealed, transportation not ensuring temperature control (no insulated box)..., the school and the Department of Culture and Society of Binh Minh commune did not propose a strong solution to immediately terminate the contract with the food supplier.

Instead, the school continued to let Nhat Anh Import Export Trading and Service Company Ltd. propose that from October 20, they would change to another food supplier and supplement food testing with rapid test strips.

Many parents are upset and concerned that the quality of meals for boarding students is not guaranteed and will affect their children's health.

Speaking to Tien Phong reporter , a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the unit had received a report of the incident that occurred at Cu Khe Primary School. The school principal reported that because of changing the food supplier, many steps had to be taken, so it is expected that the boarding kitchen will be reopened on October 27.

“I will send my child back to school tomorrow, however, if the meals are not guaranteed to be hygienic and safe, then I will stop having lunch at school. My child will cycle home for lunch and go to class in the afternoon,” said this parent.

In class groups, many parents also said that the school operating a boarding kitchen will let their children return to school after today's holiday (October 20).
