Master of Aquaculture: Practical training, aiming at sustainable development

(Dan Tri) - In the context of the Vietnamese seafood industry strongly transforming towards modernization and international integration, the need for high-quality human resources is increasingly urgent.

Grasping the trend, the Faculty of Aquaculture - Vietnam National University of Agriculture has launched a master's training program in Aquaculture with the orientation of combining learning with practice, helping students develop specialized capacity associated with production practices.

The fisheries sector in Vietnam is one of the areas with great potential for applying science and technology . Not only playing an important role in ensuring food security, fisheries is also a key export industry, bringing in more than 9 billion USD each year, creating jobs for millions of workers across the country.

However, along with opportunities, the aquaculture industry is also facing many challenges such as climate change, epidemics, market fluctuations and increasing demands on traceability and environmental standards. This requires human resources with deep expertise, innovative thinking and the ability to quickly adapt to production practices.

At Vietnam National University of Agriculture, unlike the previous approach of focusing only on theory, the graduate program focuses on practical experience and application of new technology. In addition to theoretical lessons in the classroom, students directly participate in internships at enterprises, food factories, biological products companies, or high-tech farms.

The program organizes many field trips to high-tech aquaculture models, such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), super-intensive shrimp farming in greenhouses, or breeding and production centers for tilapia and giant freshwater prawn according to international standards.

These activities help students gain a deeper understanding of the operating process, environmental management, disease prevention and treatment, and access green, circular and sustainable development trends of the industry.

According to the representative of the Faculty of Aquaculture, the goal of the program is to train a team of masters with research capacity, innovative thinking and the ability to adapt to the practical requirements of the industry. After graduation, students can take on the role of technical experts, managers at aquaculture enterprises or pursue in-depth research, contributing to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese aquaculture industry.

With an open, learner-centered approach and linking training with businesses, the Aquaculture Master's program of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture has proven effective in connecting academic knowledge with production practices, contributing to the formation of a new generation of aquaculture experts - dynamic, creative and integrated.
