40 students hospitalized after school lunch: Inspection team established

Regarding the case of 40 students being hospitalized after a meal at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School, the Inspection Committee of Kim Ngan Commune Party Committee has just decided to inspect the school's Party cell and related individuals.

The individuals inspected include Mr. Do Van My - Party Cell Secretary, Principal; Ms. Do Thi Hong Hue - Deputy Party Cell Secretary, Vice Principal of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

As reported by VTC News, on September 26, many students at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities experienced symptoms of nausea and stomachache after eating breakfast with cakes provided by the school.

Immediately after the incident, Kim Thuy commune authorities coordinated with teachers and parents to quickly take the students to medical facilities for examination and treatment. Of the 75 students with suspected poisoning symptoms, 40 had to be hospitalized, while the remaining 35 were monitored locally.

According to the test results of the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, out of 4 food samples tested, 1 food sample tested positive for Bacillus cereus, a common bacteria in soil, dust, water and food, which can cause vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain, especially when cooked food is left for a long time. This bacteria often causes poisoning if cooked food is left for a long time.

Regarding the incident, public opinion in Quang Tri was also stirred up by a clip of more than 40 seconds long circulating on social media, recording the scene where Ms. D.THH - Vice Principal of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, allegedly prevented the student from being taken to the hospital, despite the request of medical staff. The incident became even more noisy when the clip filmed at the school's medical room spread on social media.

After that, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune decided to suspend Ms. D.THH from work for 15 days. On October 23, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune (Quang Tri province) decided to extend the temporary suspension period for Ms. D.THH by 15 days. The extension of the suspension period was made because many parents did not agree to let Ms. H. return to work, while the case is still being investigated by the authorities and there is no official conclusion.
