After days of continuous rain, a landslide occurred in Maco town, Davao de Oro province in the south on the evening of February 6, burying many houses, vehicles and dozens of people. Rescue teams are urgently searching for missing people and hoping to find survivors of the landslide.

According to the World Risk Index 2022, the Philippines is the world’s most disaster-prone country. The country is frequently hit by powerful typhoons that cause flash floods and landslides. The Southeast Asian nation is also regularly hit by earthquakes and has been hit hard by volcanic eruptions.

The recent landslide in the Philippines is a painful reminder of the Philippines' vulnerability to increasingly severe natural disasters, highlighting the need for effective preparedness and response measures to minimize damage.
