Mat weaving profession in Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau

Up to now, Ca Mau province has 343 OCOP products of 162 entities recognized with 3 to 5 stars (02 5-star products, 75 4-star products, 266 3-star products). Most of the OCOP products belong to the rural industry group as prescribed in Decree No. 52/2018/ND-CP of the Government .
The province currently has 10 recognized craft villages, including 8 salt production villages and 2 weaving, carpentry and mat weaving villages; of which 3 craft villages meet the prescribed criteria, 2 craft villages have products achieving 3-star OCOP status.
The report shows that rural industry activities still face many difficulties: small-scale production, limited investment capital, lack of skilled labor, weak management and trade promotion capacity, unstable consumption market; many craft villages are at risk of shrinking and reducing the number of participating households.
Based on the review results, the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment consider providing specific guidance on dossiers and procedures for recognition and revocation of traditional occupations and craft villages; promulgate separate mechanisms and criteria suitable to the characteristics of the Mekong Delta region; and at the same time support training, improve management capacity and pilot models of sustainable and environmentally friendly craft villages, associated with digital transformation and circular economy./.
