Accordingly, 6 landslides encroached on the foot of the dike with a length of about 350m, located in An Thanh Dong commune and Dai An 1 commune (Cu Lao Dung district, Soc Trang province). Some landslides encroached on the surface of the dike toe by 1m, the bottom by 4m and the depth by 2.5m, some landslides were 1.5m deep into the rural road. Worryingly, at some landslides, cracks appeared encroaching more than 100m inland.
There are 255 households living in 6 landslide sections, threatening over 365 hectares of agricultural land.

Through surveys, the authorities determined that the cause of the landslide was due to the bend of the river, the main flow of the Hau River pressing against the bank, combined with weak soil causing landslides; some shrimp farming households suffered losses, abandoned their ponds and did not take care of the embankment, leading to landslides.
The locality has urgently deployed ropes and posted warning signs in areas at risk of landslides, while mobilizing local forces to temporarily reinforce them and limit further landslides. In addition, the province will soon invest in reinforcing the above landslide sites under the Cu Lao Dung Left and Right River Dike Upgrade Project.
