The Ministry of Industry and Trade and retail businesses expect high purchasing power during the April 30 - May 1 holiday and are implementing many solutions to stimulate consumption during this time.

Retail businesses join the stimulus

According to the General Statistics Office - Ministry of Finance , the scale of Vietnam's retail market is currently about 4,922 billion VND (equivalent to about 190 billion USD, 2024 data), of which, consumption for food and foodstuffs still accounts for the largest proportion of 35.7%, followed by household appliances, tools and equipment at 10.7%, clothing at 5.5%, means of transport at 4.8%, and finally cultural and educational items at 1.3%.

The Department of Domestic Market Management and Development - Ministry of Industry and Trade informed that goods on the market are being distributed and sold to consumers through a continuously developing commercial infrastructure system along with the process of promoting infrastructure investment and urbanization in localities across the country. By the end of 2024, the country will have 8,274 markets, 1,293 supermarkets, 276 shopping malls and nearly 7,000 convenience stores.

In 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is tasked with ensuring that total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increases by 12% over the same period. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Directive 08 dated April 4, 2025 assigning growth targets for total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue to localities in accordance with the characteristics of each locality, contributing to the overall goal of the whole country reaching 12%.

In order to achieve this goal, localities and businesses have identified major holidays, including April 30 - May 1, as opportunities to implement many solutions to stimulate consumption, taking advantage of purchasing power in the domestic market. For example, speaking with reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, a representative of Winmart supermarket said that this system has launched the program "Extremely good deals - Relaxed holiday" with discounts of up to 50%, buy 1 get 1 free, and gifts when purchasing essential products, typical products of the holiday season such as: drinks, processed foods or personal care products for tourism .

Or in early April, the Saigon Co.op system organized a cooperative goods festival. Accordingly, Co.opmart and Co.opXtra displayed more than 1,000 products with geographical indications from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Lam Dong, Dak Nong, Phu Quoc, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen... with discounts of 30-50%. In addition, 4-star OCOP fruits such as Can Gio mango, Tay Ninh custard apple, Da Lat vegetables... were discounted up to 20%.

Manufacturing businesses expect high revenue growth

Along with retail businesses, manufacturing businesses have also implemented many solutions to increase revenue on this occasion. Meanwhile, the laundry space simulates the ideal clothing care process with a horizontal drum washing machine. With the increasing demand for self-care, the personal beauty space will provide experiences with beauty devices, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes and oral care machines.

In particular, the showroom introduces the latest technology products from Panasonic such as the Venus laundry tower, Panasonic clothing care cabinet and Harmony+ refrigerator... helping customers easily access technology trends and directly experience Panasonic's innovations. This is also an activity to enhance customer experience, which is expected to help increase sales during the upcoming April 30 - May 1 holiday, especially for energy-saving air conditioners, air purifiers, etc.

At the regular meeting of the Domestic Market Management Team in the first quarter of 2025 held on the morning of April 10, Mr. Nguyen The Hiep - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade informed that to stimulate consumption, Hanoi will implement a series of promotional programs focusing on Hanoi City at major retail channels.
