Soobin, Phan Manh Quynh... honored for great contributions to music copyright

On the evening of April 20, the program 'Intellectual Property and Music: Feeling the Rhythm of Intellectual Property' was held in Ho Chi Minh City. Here, many comments on the situation of music copyright were made, along with honoring musicians who made special contributions in the past year.

Held on April 26 - World Intellectual Property Day as well as towards the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, this year's music copyright program is organized by the Copyright Office (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism); Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC).

Talking about the special role of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City has made great efforts in promoting and raising awareness of intellectual property through many major cultural activities, such as the HOZO international music festival... ".

Ms. Pham Thi Kim Oanh - Deputy Director of the Copyright Department - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also said: "Ho Chi Minh City is one of the places that promote cultural and artistic activities to develop cultural and creative industries, including the music industry. I want to replicate this model in many provinces and cities, and also hope to receive attention from all levels and sectors so that Vietnam can have more world-class music products, so that we can be proud of the Vietnamese cultural industry integrating in the era of growth".

Sharing in the current era, Mr. Tran Hoang, Director of the Copyright Office, acknowledged: "Intellectual property plays an important role in creating and promoting the music technology industry in the digital age."

Agreeing with this opinion, musician Nguyen Van Chung said: "Thanks to VCPMC's lawsuit, I was able to regain ownership of the song "Crying Moon" . Copyright protection is increasingly important, especially in today's digital age, where all music products are digitized and fully exploited on social networking platforms."

Musician Duc Tri also confided: "Since VCPMC was born, we have made music as a formal profession without having to worry about other things, so we can devote all our time to creativity."

Musician Hoai An also shares the same sentiment: "If a work is not protected or is not protected properly and transparently, it will be very difficult for the author to 'live' and not be able to create with peace of mind to contribute to society."

Attorney Phan Vu Tuan, who runs Phan Law Vietnam, said: "Over the past 20 years, music copyright in Vietnam has changed the way music is brought to the public. Previously, music copyright was infringed a lot, but now, unintentional violations are more common than intentional ones, and this is a positive sign."

Musician Kai Dinh also shared: "Intellectual property rights are not only a legal measure, but also a respect for the entire creative team of the work. Therefore, if we clearly understand and comply with intellectual property rights, it is a civilized act in the music industry."

Also in the program, musicians Kai Dinh, Hua Kim Tuyen, Nguyen Van Chung, Soobin Hoang Son , Mr. Siro, Vu Cat Tuong, Phan Manh Quynh... were honored alongside veteran names who have contributed to Vietnamese music and copyright.

Attending the program were Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan (Director of the Department of Culture - Arts, Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission), Mr. Tran Hoang (Director of the Department of Copyright, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Ms. Pham Thi Kim Oanh (Deputy Director of the Department of Copyright, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Mr. Le Minh Tuan, (Deputy Director of the Department of Copyright, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Mr. Phung Manh Cuong (Department of Science - Education - Culture, Government Office), Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut (Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City)...
