The scammers created fake documents with the logo, signatures of leaders and seals of Vinh University.

The content of these documents often promotes scholarship programs to study abroad at many prestigious schools in the US, Korea, China, Australia... with detailed information about admission targets, tuition fees, scholarship policies, study time, making many people mistakenly think that this is an official program issued by the school.

According to a representative of Vinh University, the common point of the fake documents is requiring students to submit applications and pay large fees.

There was a case where a student was tricked into paying hundreds of millions of dong but promptly reported to the school and luckily did not become a victim of the scammer.

A student at a member unit of Vinh University was even kidnapped by a group of scammers, who demanded his family pay ransom. Thanks to the alertness of his family and the timely intervention of the police, unfortunate consequences were prevented.

Working with Vinh University, the authorities determined that all documents and scholarship programs being circulated were fake and had nothing to do with the school.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Bang, Principal of Vinh University, confirmed to Dan Tri reporter: "This is an act of impersonation aimed at appropriating students' property, damaging the school's reputation.

We have advised students through political activities at the beginning of the semester and the beginning of the year, and on the school's official media.

The leaders of Vinh University also emphasized that all official activities and programs (if any) are publicly announced on the school's website and official Facebook fanpage.

On Vinh University's Facebook page, a warning notice was posted (Screenshot).

To strengthen prevention, recently at the Conference to deploy the movement of All People Protecting National Security for the 2025-2026 school year, the school invited leaders of Nghe An Provincial Police to thoroughly disseminate and raise vigilance for cadres, civil servants and students, to prevent social evils and fraud, including acts of forging documents and work programs of the school.

"After discovering the incident, we wrote a report to the authorities requesting cooperation to clarify the incident, protect the reputation and normal activities of the school," Mr. Bang informed.

In order to improve the efficiency of information management and authentication, since September, all internal documents sent to students of Vinh University have been digitally signed with certificates, making it easy to check authenticity on the Internet.

Mr. Bang added: "In the coming time, each document will be attached with a QR code so that students can scan and verify the school's official document."
