The power of resistance culture and lessons for the era of peace

The spirit of resistance of the Vietnamese people is not only bravery on the battlefield but also the will to be self-reliant, self-reliant, optimistic in hardship, the spirit of sacrifice for the common good, the morality of “loving others as you love yourself”, and the steadfast belief in justice and the future. These values are not lost in peacetime but are transformed, continuing to flow underground in the social life, becoming the foundation for building a fair, humane, and unique society.

The history of the Vietnamese people is an indomitable and heroic epic, written not only by resounding victories on the battlefield but also by the bravery, intelligence and great cultural spirit of a steadfast and persistent nation.
Throughout the length of the resistance war against foreign invaders, besides military strength and strategy, it was the resistance culture - with values such as patriotism, solidarity, humanity, resilience and creativity - that became the spiritual foundation, "soft weapon" and endogenous resource that determined the victory of the revolution.
1. If war is the harshest test for a nation, then it is in the flames of war that the quintessence of Vietnamese culture has been forged and condensed into a culture of resistance - a system of values that not only helps us win but also continues to be the spiritual support for national development in times of peace .

The negative side of the market economy and international integration is the degradation of morality, the polarization of rich and poor, environmental challenges, the penetration of deviant cultures. More than ever, the qualities of resistance need to be aroused as a spiritual immune system for the community. The spirit of overcoming difficulties, diligence, responsibility, community attachment... are not only present in the glorious past but need to be present in each person in every small action, every attitude of living for the common good.

National unity is the “source of strength” in the resistance war and is the driving force that helps us overcome new challenges. Division, localism, and the “everyone for themselves” mentality are the risks that erode trust and weaken the strength of the community. Meanwhile, lessons from great resistance wars have shown: Only when millions of hearts beat as one, can the country move towards a bright future. In economic development, unity is a resource. In preventing and fighting natural disasters and epidemics, unity is a shield. In international integration, unity is a steadfast stance. That spirit needs to be preserved and passed on as a precious legacy!
Moreover, the culture of resistance also reminds us of personal responsibility linked to national responsibility. During the years of war, many outstanding people sacrificed their youth, intelligence, and blood not for fame and profit but for the two words "independence". Today, contributing to the country is not only holding a gun but also contributing with knowledge, creativity, innovation, and the aspiration to bring Vietnam to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's powers as Uncle Ho instructed.
A civilized and progressive society cannot rely solely on economic growth but must have a solid foundation from culture, from people with noble ideals. The spirit of resistance is the source of such people. That is the spirit of "living to give, not just to receive", the will not to retreat in the face of difficulties, the qualities of valuing loyalty and affection - things that seem simple, but are the thread connecting the past with the present and leading the way to the future.
2. Revolutionary heritage is not only the artifacts preserved in museums, historical landmarks, or songs that have stood the test of time. That heritage is also the indomitable spirit, the steadfast will, the ideal of living for the Fatherland and the people that the previous generations have left for today. The most meaningful thing in this peaceful era is how to make that heritage not be forgotten but "resurrected" in the hearts and minds of the younger generation with a new spirit, with new ways of telling, with a language close to the times.
President Ho Chi Minh once advised: “Educating the next generation of revolutionaries is a very important and necessary task.” When the young generation grows up in peace, no longer witnessing the hardships of war or the heroic atmosphere of the nation, it is our responsibility to recount the past in a truthful, vivid and inspiring way, becoming the spiritual motivation for today’s actions.
Over the years, the preservation and promotion of the value of revolutionary culture has undergone strong changes, from traditional education in schools, source tours, to movies, books, stage arts, digital exhibitions, social networks... However, what is more important is the spirit of innovation in the approach, towards retelling history in the language of the digital age, through technology, images and stories that are close, personal but rich in symbolism.
We have seen the exhibitions “Memories of Hanoi” and “Living like flowers” at Hoa Lo Prison Relics organized in the form of multi-sensory experiences, combining sound-light-images-narration to touch the emotions of viewers. We have also witnessed documentary projects, historical animations, picture books, podcasts, historical vlogs made by young people themselves - where the images of soldiers, heroic mothers, and cadres from the South... appear more vivid, closer and deeper than ever.
Renewing heritage does not mean distorting values, but rather bringing old values into new life, so that history is not forgotten but becomes material for creativity and shaping personality. This is not only the responsibility of the cultural or educational sector, it is the work of the whole society, of every family, of every patriotic citizen.
We believe that the young generation with its dynamism, creativity, independence and quick access to technology has the ability to “reactivate” traditional values with their own strength. What they need is an inspiration, an opportunity to approach, a space to create, and above all, a belief from the previous generation. In order for revolutionary culture to not only be a memory but also become an ideal of life and a driving force for action, we need to join hands to create new vitality for the values that have made Vietnam strong in the past and today.
3. Each historical period has its own symbols, values and challenges. If the previous generation overcame countless difficulties with the spirit of resistance, today's generation is also facing new challenges from the rapid changes of society, from the pressure of integration, changes in living values, and even from the oblivion of the convenient era.
But in any circumstances, the culture of resistance is still an inexhaustible source. In the journey of building a civilized, modern and unique society, inheriting, promoting and renewing the revolutionary cultural heritage is the best way to nurture the national spirit in each person. Especially the young generation needs to be inspired not by dry lessons, but by real stories, real experiences, vivid images and emotional cultural spaces, from which to form a natural and profound love for the country.
From the trenches of the past to the classrooms of today, from the memories of mothers to the dreams of their children, from the glorious pages of history to every small action in life,... the culture of resistance is still quietly spreading, like a fire that warms the soul of the nation in every period. Keeping that fire from going out, making it continue to burn in each generation is the noble and glorious duty of all of us.
