Young volunteer intellectuals, officers of Economic-Defense Group 338 instruct people in Mau Son commune, Loc Binh district on techniques for planting wild lemon trees.

After graduating from Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023, in 2024, Ms. Chu Thi Toi, born in 1998, in Thanh Binh village, Thien Long commune, Binh Gia district, volunteered to join the young intellectual team of Economic-Defense Group 338. With the knowledge she learned, she and the military medical team regularly examined, treated patients, distributed free medicine, and promoted disease prevention and control to the people. Ms. Toi shared: I was born in a rural area with many difficulties, people do not care about health care. Therefore, I wish to be able to go to each place, each house, examine and treat patients, and advise on medicine for ethnic minorities. At the beginning of my time as a young intellectual volunteer, I had difficulty communicating with the people, but over the past year, I have also taken the opportunity to learn more ethnic languages ​​to make my work easier.

Like Ms. Toi, after graduating from Hanoi University of Construction, Mr. Nguyen Huu Khang, Lang Can village, Dong Tan commune, Huu Lung district (born in 2000) volunteered to join the young intellectual team of Economic-Defense Group 338. Mr. Khang said: Due to the impact of storm Yagi in September 2024, many houses had their roofs blown off, crops were lost, many households were completely isolated, I and the officers of Economic-Defense Group 338 divided into villages in Mau Son commune, Loc Binh district to check the situation and provide necessities to the people. After the storm, I and the people rebuilt temporary houses, set up schools, distributed relief goods and supported students to prepare for the new school year. In that situation, I realized that the role of our young volunteer intellectuals is not only to contribute and support people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods, but also to be a support and a source of spiritual encouragement to help people overcome difficulties.

Ms. Toi and Mr. Khang are just 2 of 11 young intellectual volunteers in the second batch, 2024 - 2026 period, currently working at Economic - Military Group 338. The young intellectual volunteers in this batch are aged from 22 to 28, 8/11 have university degrees, 3/11 have college degrees, with many majors such as: pharmacy, law, animal husbandry... Of which, 8/11 have permanent residence in Lang Son province. Over the past year, the young intellectual volunteers have been promoting the pioneering and creative role of the youth; their qualifications and professional capacity have actively coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to develop the socio -economic development of border areas in the province.

Notably, young volunteer intellectuals have joined working teams and production teams of the unit to effectively implement projects to replicate poverty reduction models and afforestation projects in the locality; actively guide people to apply science and technology to cultivation and animal husbandry. For example, from 2024 to present, the team of young volunteer intellectuals of Economic-Defense Group 338 has directly gone to villages to inspect and guide people on techniques to plant, care for and protect nearly 2,000 hectares of forest; guided nearly 200 households on livestock raising techniques provided by the Economic-Defense Group. At the same time, they have contributed over 100 working days to build rural roads and irrigation works in border communes, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; coordinated with the Military-Civilian Medical Clinic of Economic-Defense Group 338 to organize medical examinations and provide free medicine for over 400 people...

Mr. Duong Trong Minh, Chairman of Mau Son Commune People's Committee, Loc Binh District, said: The team of young volunteer intellectuals of Economic-Defense Group 338 has recently coordinated and joined hands with the Party Committee, government, and mass organizations of the commune to guide people in socio-economic development, build new rural areas, and effectively carry out many movements and activities in the commune. For example, in 2024, the team of young volunteer intellectuals joined hands with the Party Committee, government, and mass organizations of the commune to help 28 households escape poverty, and eliminate 34 temporary and dilapidated houses.

Colonel Nguyen Van Van, Deputy Political Commissar of Economic-Defense Group 338, informed: To effectively implement Project 174 on "Enhancing young intellectual volunteers to work in economic-defense zones in the period of 2021 - 2030", the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Command of Economic-Defense Group 338 closely followed the direction of the Management Board of Project 174 of Military Region 1 and the Ministry of National Defense, closely coordinated with the Party Committee and local authorities. Through the assessment, 100% of the team members successfully completed the tasks assigned by the unit. During the working process, the young intellectual volunteers promoted their pioneering and creative roles, working side by side with the cadres of Economic-Defense Group 338, the Party Committee, the government and the people to develop the socio-economy, build new rural areas, reduce poverty sustainably, and strengthen national defense and security in the border areas.

It can be said that the young volunteer intellectuals of the 338th Military Economic Group have left an unforgettable mark in the hearts of the people. This is not only a journey of dedication but also a vivid proof of the spirit of initiative, creativity and responsibility of the youth. The young volunteer intellectuals have been carrying the flame of enthusiasm, overcoming all difficulties, lighting up the belief in a brighter future for the borderland of Xu Lang.
