Implementing Plan No. 209/KH-UBND of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee and the progress of implementing the overall development project of Phu Quoc to 2040, with a vision to 2050, Kien Giang has completed the planning work of Kien Giang province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 and issued plans and action programs to materialize the goals and tasks of the provincial planning, as a basis for allocating resources to focus on investment with focus and key points, ensuring effective use of capital, including the project to build Phu Quoc city into a center of high-quality services, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism of national and international stature.
Regarding the overall development project of Phu Quoc City to 2040, with a vision to 2050, Kien Giang province has approved the outline tasks and budget estimates for the project. The Department of Finance has coordinated with experts to complete the preliminary draft of the project and report to the Provincial People's Committee; send it to departments, branches and Phu Quoc City for comments on the draft project, including mechanisms and policies for Phu Quoc development.
By May 14, 2025, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province approved the policy of adjusting the budget estimate and appointing a consulting unit to prepare the project. After approval by the Provincial People's Committee and consultation with relevant ministries and branches, the Department of Finance will work with consulting units to complete the project according to comments and submit to the Prime Minister to complete the draft project in June 2025.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasized the importance of effectively implementing the policies of the Central and Government, considering this a key political task to promote socio-economic development of the province, especially in strategic areas such as Phu Quoc.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan requested the consulting unit to absorb the comments of experts, departments, branches, localities, and enterprises that have proposed many policies on land, taxes, and investment environment management, and to research and include in the project policies that are suitable to the reality in Phu Quoc.
On the basis of Phu Quoc development, the consulting unit proposed 3 pillars including tourism; trade-service-logistics; creative urban, technology, ecology. Regarding ecology, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan suggested focusing on green transformation, green growth, green development of Phu Quoc, thereby developing Phu Quoc more comprehensively, creating unique values of the pearl island.
The consulting unit carefully researched and proposed appropriate policies, from digital transformation investment projects, expecting Phu Quoc to have an urban management model applying technology, comprehensive management, overcoming the difficulties, shortcomings, and limitations that are arising in the rapid development process of Phu Quoc.
Regarding Phu Quoc development directions, it is necessary to carefully calculate which areas Phu Quoc will develop strongly in, the areas of strength, to ensure no conflicts. The biggest goal in Phu Quoc development is tourism is still the top priority, all other areas support tourism development.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province also assigned the Department of Finance to advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish a standing working group to develop the project with the participation of departments, branches and consulting units to speed up the completion of the project.
