Almost an aviation disaster: Plane swerved to avoid helicopter in the sky

(Dan Tri) - A video captured by a surveillance camera shows the moment a passenger plane almost hit a helicopter while taking off from a runway in Brazil, making viewers' hearts skip a beat.

A Phenom 300 luxury jet was captured on surveillance camera as it soared high from the runway, when suddenly a helicopter appeared hovering above.

To avoid a mid-air tragedy, the pilot immediately made a sharp turn to avoid the collision.

The incident occurred on June 8 at Costa Esmeralda Airport in Porto Belo, southern Sao Paulo state, Brazil. This is a small airport without a control tower.

After the video was shared online, an account on social network X commented that it seemed like the plane had to circle to make way for the one taking off. It seemed that the distance between flights was not properly aligned.

Aviation experts reviewed the video and said that in reality, the helicopter was flying quite far in front of the plane. From another angle, viewers saw that the distance between the two vehicles was much larger than initially imagined.

Mr. Tiago Neves, the airport manager, confirmed that the two pilots were in contact with each other throughout the takeoff. According to this manager, the incident was completely normal because the two pilots had coordinated and communicated with each other before.

"The angle of the video makes it look more dangerous than it actually was. Since the airport has no control tower, the pilots had to coordinate themselves using radio communication and visual observation," Mr. Neves said.

It is understood the helicopter landed off the runway so as not to obstruct the jet taking off.

According to this person, it is normal for pilots to coordinate themselves at airports without control towers. That is why the helicopter landed on the grass area.

"All operations are carried out according to procedures and ensure safety," the airport manager affirmed.

The video has gained attention just months after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed into a plane while landing in Washington DC (USA), killing all 67 people on both vehicles.

Previously in April, another helicopter crash also occurred in New York City (USA), taking the lives of all 6 passengers in the cabin.
