Earlier, European News Network cited an internal NATO source as saying that Ukraine was not invited to the NATO summit scheduled for June. This is the first time since the escalation of hostilities in February 2022. It is reported that the reason is that NATO hopes to avoid tensions with the US over the Ukraine issue at the summit.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, stated that it is possible that the Ukrainian army only has enough reserves for 30 days of high-intensity combat operations. According to him, this explains Kiev's constant request for a temporary ceasefire for a month.

The Russian lawmaker stressed that, aware of the reality of the situation, Moscow has no intention of accepting such proposals. He also noted that European leaders are aware of the reality of the situation on the front lines; however, this does not prevent them from continuing to support Ukraine.

In turn, Kartapolov linked the difficulties of European economies , which are increasingly sliding into recession, to the refusal to cooperate with Russia, including the provision of cheap energy sources; while the US is raising tariffs on European products imported into the US.

At the same time, as the Russian politician said, despite the obvious benefits of restoring relations with Russia, European authorities continue to support an image of the “Russian threat”, which justifies increased defense spending and the militarization of their economies.

Kiev and Ukraine's European partners have been demanding an immediate ceasefire for at least 30 days, allowing for a "rest period" to consolidate forces, replenish equipment, build new defense lines and bring available reserves to the front.

According to Ukrainian Rada (parliament) member Iryna Gerashchenko, US military aid to Ukraine, approved by the administration of former US President Joe Biden, will end next summer. At the same time, the US budget currently does not provide additional funding for supplying new weapons to the Ukrainian army.

As the deputy speaker of the Ukrainian parliament lamented, the previous US administration supplied the Ukrainian army with weapons in controlled quantities for a long time, which allowed Kiev to somewhat hold back the Russian offensive; but it could not win the conflict. Despite this, however, Gerashchenko said she was grateful to former President Biden for his support for Ukraine.

If the Trump administration does not allocate funds to provide weapons to the Ukrainian army in the near future, Kiev will have no choice but to rely on support from EU countries; however, the potential of these countries is not limitless. Over the past three years, Europe has basically exhausted its arsenal of weapons that could be provided to Ukraine. (photo source Sputnik, Military Review, Ukrinform).
