At least 12 people were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the highway connecting the capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya, on September 8.
Kenyan police said the accident occurred at 4 p.m. on September 7 (local time) in Ndii, Taita Taveta district. A small passenger vehicle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The passenger vehicle, owned by Chania Genesis Sacco, was traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa.
Accidents on this highway in recent weeks have killed dozens of people and injured many others.
Road accidents in Kenya are mainly caused by speeding, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. An estimated 3,000 people die in road accidents in the country each year, despite the authorities pushing for many measures to improve road safety./.
