Mysterious 2,400-year-old stone slab

In the tranquil setting of northeastern Italy, in the Karst region, lies Rupinpiccolo, one of the best-preserved castles, where a 2,400-year-old disc-shaped stone slab, carved with mysterious images resembling a celestial map, has recently been discovered.

Despite its mundane appearance, this ancient artifact holds the key to shedding light on a glimpse into what people thousands of years ago might have seen. The stone slab is a circular disc, approximately 50 cm in diameter and 30 cm thick. It was found near the entrance to Castelliere and unexpectedly captured the attention of archaeologists.

This mysterious stone slab, roughly the size of a car tire, has captured the imagination of researchers. It features intricate carvings, meticulously crafted by ancient human hands, reflecting constellations such as Scorpius, Orion, Cassiopeia, and the Pleiades.

According to some estimates, the object was made with a hammer and some kind of ancient chisel. It contains 29 carvings spread across a disc-shaped stone slab. Researchers used software that could compare the markings on the stone to modern-day constellations, and they say it was quite accurate. The conclusion suggests that what the stone slab displays is not random, and these carvings may have been used to track the changing of the seasons in the past.

Researchers Federico Bernardini and Paolo Molaro, upon observing this site, proposed a highly compelling theory that this disc-shaped stone may be one of the oldest known celestial maps in human history, dating back at least 2,400 years, whose existence remains a mystery to this day.

Beyond its celestial mysteries, this artifact signifies a connection between modern science and the enigmatic wisdom of a civilization lost over time.
