Talking to us, comrade Nguyen Dinh Thuong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) of Tam Duong district said: "To ensure water for agricultural production, from the beginning of the year, the department reviewed and assessed the current status of irrigation works, in which, prioritized investment and repair of irrigation works. Coordinated with communes and towns to inspect the management and exploitation of irrigation works, before, during and after the rainy season. From there, advised the district to invest funds to repair damaged irrigation works to ensure irrigation water for agricultural production in the area with high efficiency".
Currently, Tam Duong district has 160 projects, of which 27 projects are managed by Lai Chau Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd., 133 projects at the district level, with 432.33km of canals, serving irrigation for 618.3ha of winter-spring rice, 3,546ha of summer-autumn rice, 557.1ha of crops and 111.6ha of aquaculture. Recently, the District People's Committee has directed the District Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with communes and towns to improve and enhance the operational efficiency of the Management Board, Operation Team of village irrigation works, and maintain works after investment to ensure irrigation water for production. Communes and towns regularly check water sources at irrigation works; instruct farmers to save water right from the beginning of the season; Plan to distribute water appropriately to serve corn and rice production at the end of the field and adjust appropriately when water is lacking to ensure adequate supply for essential production needs.
People of Ta Leng commune (Tam Duong district) check the water source of the irrigation project in San Tra Man village.
The Department strengthens the direction of dredging, berming, and covering water intakes, canal beds with sedimentation of soil and rocks; for damaged and degraded works, put them on the investment and repair list, ensuring irrigation water for production and domestic water for people. At the same time, coordinate with Lai Chau Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd. to develop a rotating irrigation schedule, regulate production water sources for people belonging to irrigation works managed by the company. Remind people to use production water sources economically and effectively. The canal system in the district is gradually being reinforced, ensuring irrigation water for fields, helping farmers in the district to proactively sow and plant crops on time. Communes and towns carry out the management, operation, and exploitation of irrigation works, maintain the activities of cooperatives, cooperative groups, and village operation groups.
We had the opportunity to visit the irrigation canal system of San Tra Man village (Ta Leng commune). The project has been invested and put into use for more than 10 years and has always been effective. People have just completed clearing weeds, removing trash and clearing the flow. This irrigation canal provides irrigation water for hundreds of hectares of corn, rice and crops of people in villages in Ta Leng and Then Sin communes. People here maintain, exploit and improve the efficiency of the irrigation canal system, meeting the irrigation water needs for agricultural production in the direction of goods.
Mr. Phan A Em - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ta Leng Commune said: "Right from the beginning of each crop season, the commune government mobilizes people to participate in dredging, repairing and clearing the flow and irrigation canals. The commune takes advantage of investment capital from the province and district to solidify the canals to provide enough irrigation water for large fields producing 2 crops/year. Up to now, all irrigation canal systems of the commune have been effective. Thanks to the assurance of irrigation water, 100% of the commune's corn and rice areas are produced on schedule, giving high yields."
Talking to us, Mr. Lo Van Lam in Na Phat village (Binh Lu commune) said: “Having been involved in agricultural production for more than 20 years, I am aware of the need to fully participate in the dry season dredging sessions, saving water right from the source. During the rainy season, many sections of the canal are eroded, seeped, leaked, and lost water. I participate in repairing and leading irrigation water to serve production effectively. I am happy to be able to join the people in the commune in repairing, clearing, and improving the efficiency of the irrigation canal system, serving agricultural production effectively.”
Thanks to the repair, exploitation and rational use of the irrigation canal system, Tam Duong district promotes increasingly sustainable agricultural production.
