Tam Duong actively protects the environment

(BLC) - To help people in the district have a clean living environment, good health for working and studying, Tam Duong district has been implementing solutions to protect the environment. Thereby, people raise awareness, take practical actions to protect the living environment, promote local socio -economic development.

According to the assessment of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (TN&MT) of Tam Duong district, up to now, there is no industrial park in the area; industrial production activities only include 2 quarries for common construction materials; service activities are small-scale, mainly providing necessities for people's daily activities. Therefore, the environment in the district has not been much affected by the development of industry, services and urbanization.

Currently, the main risk of environmental pollution comes from agricultural activities such as: waste from livestock activities, used pesticide packaging, household waste of people in the district and construction works.

The reason is due to the customs and practices of a part of ethnic minorities in raising livestock in the direction of letting livestock and poultry roam freely as well as burning straw after each harvest; there is no funding source to collect and treat used pesticide packaging to ensure environmental protection regulations, and to build sanitary landfills in communes. This is one of the main causes of pollution in residential areas and villages in the district, affecting the landscape and quality of life of the people.

Leaders of the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, departments, branches and organizations of Tam Duong district planted trees, contributing to environmental protection.

Talking to us, comrade Dao Thi Huong - Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tam Duong district said: "Faced with these challenges, the district has been implementing solutions on environmental protection, specifically strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people to raise awareness of environmental protection through news, articles, leaflets, and propaganda billboards in response to major environmental holidays such as: World Environment Day June 5, and the annual Clean the World Week.

At the same time, through Party cell meetings, village meetings..., people were educated to protect the environment through specific actions. The organization of environmental sanitation, dredging of sewers, garbage collection and treatment was carried out in 13/13 communes and towns. The People's Committees of communes and towns deployed people in the villages in the area to clean up, collect garbage, clear bushes... From there, gradually raising people's awareness of environmental protection work".

Actively protecting the environment, the district has recently implemented criterion No. 17 in the National Target Program on New Rural Development (NTM), directed specialized agencies to strengthen guidance and inspection of the implementation of criterion No. 17; directed the People's Committees of communes to implement each indicator of the criterion.

Along with that, strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to gradually raise awareness of environmental protection, join hands with local authorities to build new rural areas. At the same time, allocate capital to implement criterion No. 17 such as: supporting people to build livestock barns, build hygienic toilets, deploy models of collecting, classifying, and treating household waste... By May 2023, in Tam Duong district, there will be 8 communes meeting new rural standards, 10 communes meeting criterion No. 17 on environment and food safety.

Every year, in response to World Environment Day on June 5, agencies, departments, branches, unions of the district and People's Committees of communes and towns launch campaigns to clean up the environment, clear bushes, dredge drains and plant trees in the premises of agencies or along the roads of the villages. Some typical units include: the Department of Education and Training of the district, Tam Duong District Youth Union, villages: Lao Chai 1 (Khun Ha commune), Chu Va 6 (Son Binh commune), Si Thau Chai (Ho Thau commune).

Youth Union members and people of Khun Ha commune (Tam Duong district) cleaned up the internal roads, creating a green - clean - beautiful environment.

Comrade Nguyen Duy Cuong - Deputy Secretary of Tam Duong District Youth Union said: "To actively protect the environment, recently, the District Youth Union has directed grassroots youth unions in the whole district to clean up village roads and alleys, plant trees and flowers on the roads. At the same time, the District Youth Union supports construction materials for people in the communes of Ta Leng, Na Tam... to build barns far from their houses, build hygienic toilets... In particular, to respond to World Environment Day on June 5, 100% of grassroots youth unions in the whole district simultaneously organized Green Sunday (May 28) with many meaningful activities such as: cleaning the environment, collecting waste at agencies, units, villages; taking care of trees, flower gardens... Thereby, helping union members, youth and people raise awareness of environmental protection, helping the living environment become cleaner and fresher".
