STO - After two long and arduous wars, many "Uncle Ho" soldiers were lucky to return to their homeland and their families, some of whom left a part of their bodies on the battlefield. However, they still strongly overcame all difficulties and illnesses, always taking the lead in local movements, joining hands to build their homeland to develop more and more.

Introduced by the veterans in My Tu district (Soc Trang), we went to meet Mr. Lu An Ninh - Head of the Veterans Association of My Thuan hamlet, Huynh Huu Nghia town (My Tu district) - a typical and enthusiastic veteran. Meeting him in the atmosphere close to the anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, perhaps memories came flooding back to that veteran. At the age of 77, and a third-class disabled veteran; one leg was weak due to the aftermath of war bombs, making it difficult for him to walk, but he was still agile and active. Talking to us, he kept laughing and talking, then tilted his head to point at the wound and said: "Not only was my leg injured, there was also shrapnel stuck in my head, and there was a hole left. But thanks to the dedicated treatment of my comrades, I was lucky to escape death." Then he told us in detail about the fierce battles of the past. In 1963, when he was not yet 17 years old, carrying the pain of his father being killed by the enemy, he joined the revolution in the Infantry Reconnaissance Battalion, Military Region 9 with a brave spirit. He directly participated in many battles from the West to the Southeast, but the most fierce and persistent was the 78-day and night battle in 1969, at Hon Dat ( Kien Giang ). Also in this battle, he was wounded and thought he would not survive, had to undergo surgery 4 times, and could not walk for nearly a year before recovering. After that, he continued to participate in the revolution until the day the South was completely liberated.

Uncle Lu An Ninh always carefully kept the awarded titles marking a glorious time of fighting.

While excited about the stories of the glorious and glorious past, when mentioning the word "comrade", he suddenly paused for a moment, then emotionally said: "Back then, participating in many big and small battles, I don't know how many brothers sacrificed. I could only suppress the pain, burying my brothers with my own hands. Now, lying at night remembering each person, I am sad and shed tears. Even when I was injured and lying in one place, to move I had to ask my brothers to carry me, those things make me remember forever."

After the country's reunification, returning to his hometown of My Tu, Mr. Lu An Ninh held many positions in Huynh Huu Nghia town. It was not until 1990 that he joined the Veterans Association. Currently, in addition to his duties as the Head of the Village Veterans Association, he is also the Head of the Loan Group of the Social Policy Bank and a medical collaborator. According to him, although the work is not hard, it must be arranged scientifically. Because there is a schedule throughout the month, especially at peak times, he has to attend meetings, propagate, mobilize members, collect bank interest, hold medical meetings, send vaccination invitations, kill mosquito larvae... As a veteran himself, understanding the circumstances of his brothers in the association, he always tries to mobilize and help those in difficult circumstances; then guides and supports his brothers in doing family economics ; builds models of learning and following Uncle Ho, contributing to promoting the lives of members as well as the local socio-economic development. Sometimes I feel that I am quite old and my health has problems when the weather changes, but for me, working is a joy, I have to overcome other things.

In recognition of his glorious achievements in combat and dedication, Uncle Lu An Ninh was awarded many medals, titles, certificates of merit, certificates of merit... and he always treasured and kept them with him. Partly for the honor of being a soldier of "Uncle Ho's Army", partly to remind his descendants that their ancestors had made many sacrifices and losses to gain independence and freedom for today's generation. "Moreover, I am also a Party member, this year I am 55 years old in the Party. Therefore, I must live a truly exemplary life so that my descendants in the family and the villagers can see what is right and do the right thing and follow it" - he confided.
