Many people still think they are completely healthy, but in fact, only when they go for a check-up do they discover hidden diseases that previously had no special symptoms. Typically, at the end of August 2025, doctors from the Department of Gynecology (Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital) successfully performed surgery to remove 19 uterine fibroids from a female patient (32 years old, Dong Trieu ward). This is a rare case with an unusually large number of fibroids, with tumors larger than 5cm; all of the tumors occupied almost the entire uterine cavity.
According to Dr. Dang Ngoc Duong (Head of Gynecology Department, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital), if not treated promptly, uterine fibroids can cause menorrhagia, severe anemia, infertility or seriously affect the quality of life. Regular gynecological examination is an important measure for early detection and timely treatment.
Another case is Ms. NTQ (33 years old, Quang Ha commune). Ms. Q only had occasional headaches and slight hand tremors, so she was subjective and did not think of a serious illness. When she went for a general examination at the Provincial General Hospital, the doctor unexpectedly discovered an aneurysm in the left internal carotid artery, measuring nearly 5mm in size, with a neck diameter of 4mm. This is considered a "time bomb" that can cause a stroke at any time.
Thanks to early detection, Ms. Q received timely intervention by using a method of blocking the aneurysm with a metal coil combined with a stent to block the neck of the aneurysm to avoid the risk of rupture causing a hemorrhagic stroke. After the intervention, Ms. Q quickly recovered and was able to walk normally.
Dr. Ngo Quang Chuc (Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Provincial General Hospital) said: The patient is very young and fortunate that the cerebral aneurysm was discovered before it ruptured. This is a difficult case because the aneurysm has a wide neck, if only plugged with a metal coil, it can easily reopen, even causing cerebral vascular occlusion. Therefore, we had to combine placing a stent, a type of support inside the blood vessel to keep the coil fixed and help blood circulate stably. The whole process requires absolute precision because the cerebral blood vessels are very small and complex. The important thing is not only to handle the immediate risk, but also to ensure that the patient can live a healthy, long-term life without being affected in daily life."
In reality, many dangerous diseases such as cancer, stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fatty liver, high blood fat or early stage kidney failure... often progress silently, without specific symptoms. By the time the disease is detected, it is already in the late stage, making treatment much more difficult and expensive. Regular health check-ups help detect the disease early, thereby making treatment simpler, shorter and with a higher success rate. Especially with cancer, early detection can help patients maintain their quality of life and the chance of a cure.
Many people think that going to the doctor when you are healthy is a “waste of money”. But in reality, the cost of treating serious illnesses will be many times higher than regular health check-ups. Not only that, regular check-ups also help us feel more secure in life and work.
Do not ignore minor symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, hand tremors, menstrual disorders, prolonged lower abdominal pain, rapid weight loss... These can be warning signs of underlying diseases. Doctors recommend that adults should maintain the habit of regular health check-ups at least 1-2 times/year. At the same time, combine a healthy lifestyle such as reasonable diet, regular exercise, avoid stress and quit bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
Currently, Quang Ninh has a widespread health care network, with more than 200 public health facilities from the provincial to the communal level; and 655 private health facilities in operation. People can easily choose the appropriate hospital or clinic for regular check-ups, protecting the health of themselves and their families.
