Hanoi Thu Hue, 24 years old, bought a "magic check to attract wealth", but after using it for a month, she did not see any financial success as advertised.

Hue is an office worker with a low income and many expenses, so she often has insomnia and anxiety disorders due to financial difficulties. At the end of September, an acquaintance introduced her to a "magic check", saying that she only needed to keep one in her wallet and stick the other in places she often saw to "feel the vibration and be grateful to the universe", which would attract wealth.

The girl bought 24 "checks", priced at 40,000 VND each, at a store in Hanoi. Every month, she burned two old ones and replaced them with two new ones, one for her wallet and one to hang on her wall. The seller invited her to buy an "eraser pencil" to use with the checks "to help attract wealth faster", priced at 20,000 VND each.

"Use the eraser of a pencil to tap the check and say your wish 30 times or more, focusing your mind on the image of yourself achieving that amount of money and feeling grateful for the money coming to you," Hue said she was instructed by the seller.

After doing this for a month, Hue did not receive any additional money from the "universe" as advertised. She wondered, the seller replied "because I did not have enough trust, whether it is effective or not depends on each person's trust". Hue said: "I realized I had been scammed, and I was even more worried and had trouble sleeping than before".

Also struggling with financial difficulties, frequent anxiety, sleep disorders and negative thoughts, Phuong Loan, 27, bought a "financial cleansing ATM card" for 120,000 VND for a set of two cards printed with her account number and name. According to the seller, the most effective way is to print out the card and put it in your wallet, car or some place in your house. Using this card to swipe bills, debits or documents of any kind "will act as an agent to attract wealth and prosperity".

Loan believed that the "universe" would help her have more money, despite her friends and relatives' objections. After a month, her anxiety disorder, insomnia, and negative thoughts became more frequent, and Loan had to see a psychologist.

Dr. Tran Thi Hong Thu, Deputy Director of Mai Huong Daytime Psychiatric Hospital, said that these types of services are disguised as "healing products" that take advantage of people's anxiety, stress, and gullibility to make a profit. In today's era, people face countless pressures in life, the need to maintain mental health becomes a top priority. Therefore, some people take advantage of this need to make a profit, which can be dangerous to the patient's mental health.

"There is no method, with a simple product or treatment, that can cure all health problems," the doctor said, adding that mental health cannot be "healed" quickly through courses or using "mysterious and supernatural" products. On the contrary, if not treated promptly at the hospital, the disease will become more severe, and in the long term, it can cause great losses in physical health and money. Many people have lost both money and health when they believe in unstable types of healing.

Recognizing the cause of this situation, psychology lecturer Nguyen Thi Huong Lan, Vietnam Happiness Academy, said that the cost of psychological treatment is quite high, from several hundred to a million VND per visit. This is a barrier that prevents people from going to the doctor for treatment. They are already under financial pressure and have to bear an additional burden and cannot afford treatment. From there, they tend to resort to spiritual solutions, which have no scientific basis.

"Seeing a psychologist for proper treatment is the shortest and most effective solution, not a spiritual solution," said Ms. Lan, adding that when you are healthy both physically and mentally, you can work to generate income and better values, thereby improving your finances and long-term values.
