This is the last regular meeting this year and also marks the last meeting that Vietnam participates in as a member of the UNSC for the 2023-2025 term.

As committed when running for election, during the past three years, Vietnam has focused on promoting key priority groups: improving the effectiveness of the UN Human Rights Council's operations in conjunction with upholding international law; addressing human rights issues in the face of climate change and digital transformation; combating violence and discrimination, enhancing protection of vulnerable groups; promoting gender equality; and promoting the right to health care, the right to work, access to quality education and human rights education.

Promoting these priorities, Vietnam has actively contributed to the common work of the UN Human Rights Council, through various initiatives, vividly demonstrated by the UN Human Rights Council's resolutions, inter-regional joint statements and international seminars.

Notably, the Resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action and the Resolution on climate change and human rights focusing on a just transition, proposed by Vietnam, were both adopted with consensus and a large number of co-sponsors (121 countries and 80 countries, respectively).

Vietnam also chaired the drafting of a number of inter-regional joint statements such as the Joint Statement on promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote gender equality and human rights to vaccination...

Vietnam’s initiatives have received broad support from member countries, enriching the discussions and activities of the Human Rights Council. This shows the recognition of international friends for Vietnam’s active and proactive role in implementing international commitments on human rights and contributing to the work of the Human Rights Council.

At the final session of this term, Vietnam continued to develop a general statement at the discussion session on the topic of promoting human rights and access to health through vaccination. At the same time, Vietnam actively participated in organizing thematic discussions and consulting on decisions and resolutions...

Having successfully assumed the role of a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term, Vietnam has been performing well in its current role for the 2023-2025 term. Along with the comprehensive economic, cultural and social achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, its active participation in the UN Human Rights Council has contributed to affirming Vietnam's strong commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, deserving of being elected twice with a high number of votes as a member of the UN Human Rights Council.

In the current international context with many challenges and divisions, the role of building, bridging and promoting consensus that Vietnam is showing at the UNSC is extremely important, demonstrating its dedication and commitment in its position.

Preparing to end a journey is also the time to open a new journey. The image of a responsible, proactive and trustworthy country in multilateral human rights mechanisms in recent times will be a solid foundation for Vietnam to embark on the next journeys, including efforts to re-run for the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.
