According to the Ministry of Health , many infectious diseases such as dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, and COVID-19 are currently showing signs of increasing locally in some localities. Although the rainy season has not yet reached its peak, since the beginning of May 2025, there have been many storms, heavy rains, lightning, and flooding, affecting living conditions, the environment, and posing a potential risk of disease outbreaks.

To proactively control the situation, especially in the context of the approaching summer tourist season, the Ministry of Health has requested localities to launch a peak campaign to prevent and control epidemics in June and July 2025. These campaigns focus on preventing dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, COVID-19 and diseases related to environmental sanitation conditions after floods such as pink eye, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid...

One of the key solutions is to mobilize the whole society to participate in eliminating mosquito larvae, removing objects containing stagnant water, and closely monitoring tanks and clean water storage devices to prevent dengue fever. At the same time, educational institutions need to instruct children to wash their hands regularly to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease. Wearing masks in public places and limiting large gatherings continue to be emphasized to prevent COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health requires local health departments to step up communication on epidemic prevention, especially in remote areas, ethnic minority areas with appropriate forms and languages; improve epidemiological surveillance capacity. Surveillance of severe viral pneumonia (SVP) and unusual phenomena needs to be carried out continuously to detect cases early and promptly handle outbreaks, especially in extreme weather conditions.

At the same time, health departments must direct the organization of patient admission and treatment, and appropriate treatment routes to avoid hospital overload, ensure timely consultation and emergency care, and minimize mortality rates. Medical facilities must maintain a mobile anti-epidemic team to support lower-level facilities when necessary, especially in areas affected by natural disasters and floods.

In Phu Yen, as of week 19/2025, the whole province recorded more than 400 cases of dengue fever, down 45% compared to the same period in 2024; recorded 25 cases of measles (1 death), 86 cases of flu, 143 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, 38 cases of chickenpox and 1 case of whooping cough.
