According to the report at the conference, in the 2024 flood season, the Vu Gia river basin recorded 4 major floods with total rainfall each ranging from 60 - 250mm.
Hydropower reservoirs in the basin have been operating in accordance with inter-reservoir and single-reservoir procedures, ensuring absolute safety for the project and downstream areas. In particular, large hydropower plants such as A Vuong, Dak Mi 4, and Song Bung 4 have participated in cutting and reducing flood peaks with a total water volume of up to 319 million cubic meters at flood peak times, contributing significantly to reducing flooding in downstream areas.

At the conference, hydropower units focused on evaluating the results achieved, drawing experience in disaster prevention and search and rescue (PCTT&TKCN) work in the past time. At the same time, they discussed, resolved difficulties and proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness of coordination in safe dam operation, especially during the rainy season, ensuring safety for the project and downstream areas.
Accordingly, from now until August 15, units will inspect dam safety; review and develop plans to ensure dam and downstream safety, disaster prevention and control and search and rescue plans, regulations on coordinating disaster prevention and control and reservoir operations... with updated arrangements of administrative units to be ready to implement the plan from the beginning of the 2025 storm season.
The units also proposed and recommended that relevant departments, branches, localities and units consider adjusting the operating procedures of reservoirs in a flexible manner so that the coordination of hydroelectric reservoir operations becomes increasingly effective.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Truong Xuan Ty - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Chief of Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Quang Nam province acknowledged and highly appreciated the positive results in reservoir operation and coordination in natural disaster response between hydropower units and local authorities in recent times.
In the context of implementing administrative unit arrangement, Mr. Truong Xuan Ty suggested that hydropower units in the Vu Gia river basin proactively review and adjust coordination regulations with localities in accordance with the new administrative boundaries.
At the same time, continue to maintain close and smooth coordination with authorities at all levels; provide optimal operating plans, promptly respond to unusual and complicated flood situations, ensuring maximum safety for the downstream areas of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city.
