Proactively respond to landslides during the rainy season
According to the assessment of the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the rainy season in 2025 is likely to begin at the end of April. Total rainfall in April 2025 is generally 5-10% higher than the average of many years; May - June 2025 is 5-15% higher than the average; July - September 2025 is approximately the average. It is forecasted that June - August 2025 is the rainy season, however, there will likely be 2-3 periods of reduced rainfall occurring in June, around the end of August to early September 2025.
The Provincial People's Committee requests provincial departments, branches, and sectors, and district-level People's Committee Chairmen to closely monitor forecasts and warnings about extreme weather developments, promptly inform and disseminate information to authorities at all levels, and proactively respond appropriately. In particular, be on guard against dangerous weather phenomena such as: thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, hail, widespread heavy rain, local heavy rain, especially during the transitional period (around the last week of April) and the first months of the 2025 rainy season.
In addition, it is necessary to organize and direct the commune level to strengthen inspections and guide organizations, households and individuals to reinforce, brace and repair houses, warehouses, factories, enterprises and public works to increase their stability; trim trees and large trees at risk of falling; check signs, billboards and billboards that are potentially unsafe within the scope of management. At the same time, it is necessary to proactively deploy measures to respond to rain, storms, whirlwinds and lightning that pose a risk of causing damage to people's lives and property and state property.
Specialized sectors and localities shall organize the review and identification of dangerous areas, especially mountain slopes at risk of landslides, rock falls, areas with warnings of landslides on river banks and canals, which are especially dangerous, as warned by the Department of Agriculture and Environment; proactively plan to evacuate people and property from areas at risk. For areas that are not yet eligible for immediate evacuation, localities must have proactive evacuation plans to ensure the safety of people's lives.
The Provincial People's Committee also requested sectors and localities to strengthen inspection and handling of violations of legal regulations on irrigation, dykes and natural disaster prevention and control. In particular, the following acts must be strictly prohibited: Organizations, households and individuals arbitrarily digging canal beds and dykes to build land, yards and houses; constructing works and architectural structures encroaching on the protection area of river banks, canals, ditches, dykes and irrigation works, obstructing the flow and increasing the risk of landslides...
Media agencies ( An Giang Newspaper, An Giang Radio and Television, district and grassroots broadcasting systems) step up propaganda and instruct people on how to recognize and respond to rain, storms with whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and landslides. At the same time, promote people's proactive spirit in reinforcing and bracing houses before the storm season, not violating the law on irrigation, dykes, and natural disaster prevention and control. Regularly monitor and grasp weather information on the media, comply with warnings and requests from professional sectors and local authorities.
Provincial departments, branches, and members of the Provincial Steering Committee for Climate Change Response - Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Civil Defense, district-level People's Committee Chairmen, and relevant agencies disseminate measures to respond to thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and landslides in 2025, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the State.
