- As the Lunar New Year approaches, the demand for confectionery and alcohol among local residents is increasing. Taking advantage of this, some businesses have mixed in confectionery and alcohol of unknown origin to sell to consumers.

To protect consumers' health, market management forces and related sectors have been implementing solutions to strictly control the trading of these products.

Many businesses violate

From January 14 to January 17, 2025, the Working Group in charge of Van Quan district, Market Management Team No. 5 (in charge of Van Quan, Binh Gia, Bac Son districts) coordinated with relevant agencies to inspect 8 business establishments in Tan Doan commune, Yen Phuc commune and Van Quan town. Through the inspection, 5 business establishments were discovered selling packaged cakes of unknown origin. The authorities seized more than 100 units of related products.

Also during this time, the Working Group in charge of Van Lang district, Market Management Team No. 7 (in charge of Van Lang and Trang Dinh districts) also inspected 7 food business establishments and discovered that all 7 establishments were selling confectionery, wine, and beer of unknown origin.

In addition to the two above-mentioned Market Management Teams, implementing the peak inspection plan against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods before, during, and after the Lunar New Year 2025, the Market Management Teams in charge of the area have increased market inspection and control, focusing on inspecting the activities of business establishments selling key and essential goods with high consumption during the Lunar New Year, especially pre-packaged food products, confectionery, and alcoholic beverages (wine, beer).

Mr. Le Trung Nghia, Captain of Market Management Team No. 1 (in charge of Lang Son city) said: To control the market of goods on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, Market Management Team No. 1 has strengthened the direction of propaganda, supervision and inspection teams for stores and distribution units of essential goods to serve the consumption needs of people in Lang Son city, especially focusing on inspecting establishments selling confectionery, alcohol and beer. From now until the Lunar New Year, the team will continue to strengthen the management of the area, proactively coordinate well with functional agencies to strengthen market inspection and control to detect and strictly handle establishments violating the production and trading of confectionery, alcohol and beer that do not ensure quality, are of unknown origin, etc.

According to the report of the Provincial Market Management Department, through market inspection and surveillance activities, from the beginning of December 2024 to present, the Market Management teams have inspected 289 establishments selling confectionery, alcohol and beer products and discovered 142 establishments violating the act of selling products of unknown origin.

Focus on controlling product origin and quality

According to forecasts, demand for confectionery and alcohol will continue to increase during this time.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Provincial Market Management Department, said: Currently, the Market Management force has been focusing on implementing professional measures, closely monitoring the area to detect and inspect the suppliers of confectionery, alcohol and beer to businesses in the province, thereby promptly detecting and destroying distributors of confectionery, alcohol and beer products of unknown origin, fake confectionery and alcohol products... At the same time, the Market Management agency also focuses on inspecting and controlling the business activities of confectionery, alcohol and beer products of foreign origin at shopping centers, supermarkets, large alcohol businesses... thereby promptly detecting and preventing smuggled products, products with fake foreign labels...

It is known that from now until the Lunar New Year of At Ty, the Market Management force will regularly coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspections of organizations and individuals trading in confectionery, alcohol and beer products regarding origin, origin, invoices, documents, product labeling, and conformity certificates. In parallel with market inspection and control, the Market Management agency will also coordinate with districts and cities to focus on mobilizing business establishments to sign a commitment not to trade in confectionery, alcohol and beer products that are smuggled, of unknown origin, and do not ensure quality and food safety...; coordinate with press agencies to publicly announce organizations, individuals, and business establishments that violate the law, sell counterfeit products, and products that do not ensure quality to warn consumers.

In addition to the involvement of authorities, when buying products, consumers also need to clearly see information about the product such as: brand, ingredients, origin, etc. At the same time, promptly inform the authorities about businesses that sell confectionery, alcohol and beer products of unknown origin for timely handling.
