Strengthening management of sand mining on inland waterways

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document directing to strengthen the management of sand mining activities on inland waterways to ensure traffic safety, social order and environmental protection in the province.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Police, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Construction and the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to seriously implement the requirements of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration in Official Dispatch No. 728 dated April 10, 2025. In particular, strengthening the inspection and examination of the exploitation and use of river sand and gravel; resolutely stopping exploitation, closing mines, renovating and restoring the environment in ineffective exploitation areas, causing pollution according to the law; developing effective measures to prevent and strictly handle acts of illegal exploitation, transportation and trading of river sand and gravel or those of illegal origin; strictly prohibiting the use of dredging and channel clearing to illegally exploit minerals.

At the same time, units and localities need to proactively inspect and review projects that are at risk of affecting flood drainage, causing landslides, and affecting the safety of riverside works to promptly handle or report to competent authorities for settlement according to regulations.
