In the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, many structures such as temples, pagodas, and monasteries were damaged or even collapsed. Unlike many structures, the sacred Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda on a golden rock still stood firm after the terrible earthquake. Photo: pandaw.com.

Some social media users shared a video of the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda during the earthquake. Viewers could see the top of the pagoda shaking violently. However, the gold-plated stone remained standing. Many called it a "miracle". Photo: pandaw.com.

Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda, also known as Golden Rock, is one of the most sacred and ancient pagodas in Myanmar. The golden rock is located on a steep cliff at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level. Photo: buddhistartnews.

On a rock about 7.5m high, 15.2m in circumference is the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda, over 7m high. The entire pagoda and rock are covered in gold leaf on the surface, creating an incredibly spectacular landscape. Photo: tnktravel.

What surprised people even more was that the rock was located on the edge of a cliff, looking like it could fall into the valley below at any moment. The point of contact between the rock and the ground was also very small. Photo: tnktravel.

However, for thousands of years, the rock above has remained unchanged, defying all laws of physics. Photo: tnktravel.

Regarding this rock, people tell each other a story about Buddha once visiting the Kyaikhtiyo pagoda area and he gave a hair relic to a hermit named Taik Tha. Photo: freepik.

Before he died, the hermit Taik Tha gave the hair to King Tissa. The two gods Zawgyi and Naga helped the king find the stone under the ocean. The stone was then brought up and placed on Kyaikhtiyo Hill. The hair of the Buddha was enshrined in the stone and a pagoda was built on it to enshrine the Buddha's relics. Photo: go-myanmar.com.

From here, many people believe that it is the Buddha's hair that has kept the gilded rock with the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda on top standing firm for centuries without rolling down. Photo: go-myanmar.com.
