- The recent case of a fake milk powder production, trading and consumption ring being dismantled in Hanoi and some northern provinces has raised great concern among the public. Immediately, the functional forces of Lang Son province simultaneously took action, strengthening the management of the area for the milk powder business to prevent fake milk from reaching consumers.
The inspection team reviewed milk products at some pharmacies and stores in Lang Son city and the provincial General Hospital.
On the afternoon of April 24, reporters from Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station had the opportunity to accompany Market Management Team No. 2, Lang Son Provincial Market Management Department, on a surprise inspection in Cao Loc district. Accordingly, the delegation inspected milk products sold at Hai Ha Pharmacy (Hop Thanh Commune, Cao Loc District). Here, officers from Market Management Team No. 2 checked the labels, expiry dates, invoices and documents proving the origin of the powdered milk products being sold. Through the inspection, the authorities did not detect any of the recommended fake milk products. The milk products on sale had all the stamps and labels. The owners of the business establishments presented full invoices and documents proving the origin of the milk products.
Mr. Tran Duy Hieu, Captain of Market Management Team No. 2, said: There are no stores specializing in milk in the area, but they combine it with many other food products. Since the beginning of April 2025, we have strengthened the management of the area, reviewed, propagated, and instructed 15 businesses, including powdered milk, to sign a commitment to comply with regulations on the origin of goods and invoices. Currently, we have developed a plan to conduct simultaneous inspections, not only of large dealers but also of small stores and mini supermarkets that sell powdered milk, focusing on detecting unusual signs such as: labels, product information, and valid invoices.
Mr. Dang Van Ngoc, Head of the Provincial Market Management Department, said: In response to information about the appearance of "fake milk" on the market, the provincial market management force has strengthened market control in the powdered milk business sector. The Department has issued a document requesting its affiliated units to strengthen local management, update information on food business activities, especially powdered milk products; propagate and mobilize business organizations and individuals to sign commitments. At the same time, coordinate with relevant authorities to implement professional measures to prevent and handle violations according to prescribed authority, absolutely not allowing milk that does not meet quality standards according to regulations to circulate on the market, affecting the health of consumers.
Accordingly, the Provincial Market Management Department issued Document No. 202/QLTT-NVTH dated April 18, 2025 on strengthening the supervision, inspection and control of the market for medicines, milk and other foods and pharmaceuticals according to Official Dispatch No. 40/CD-TTg, Official Dispatch No. 41/CD-TTg, Official Dispatch No. 2755/CD-BCT. In the past week (from April 19 to 25), the Market Management force of the whole province has strengthened market control with 55 rounds of grasping the local situation, propagating and signing commitments with 53 business organizations and individuals on compliance with the provisions of law in the field of food safety, including medicines and milk. Through grasping the local situation, the functional forces have not yet discovered fake milk products like the case in Hanoi, but the increased inspection helps to promptly rectify business activities and raise consumer vigilance.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai, Na Duong town, Loc Binh district confided: My family has a 3-year-old child who is still using powdered milk to increase resistance and height. Previously, I bought through many channels, including social networks. But after the incident of fake milk being discovered, seeing the authorities inspecting supermarkets and stores, I only bought and also told relatives and friends to only buy milk from large stores with quality control and management. I myself also hope that the authorities will tighten the law to protect people's health, especially children.
Staff at Tam Pharmacy, Lang Son city preserve milk and advise customers on suitable milk types.
The involvement of the authorities not only raises public awareness, but also serves as a warning to businesses. Pharmacist Ha Nhu Quynh, manager of Tam Pharmacy, Lang Son City, shared: After being inspected and instructed, I realized that I need to be more careful when importing powdered milk products. It is necessary to carefully check invoices, documents, place of production, origin and especially remember the list of fake milk products that have been announced to eliminate them.
Along with the efforts of the authorities, consumers also need to raise awareness in choosing products, and join the authorities in the fight against counterfeit goods, especially products and foods that directly affect public health.
