Increase the province's urbanization rate to 45% by 2025

On the afternoon of January 9, the Department of Construction held a conference to summarize the work in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025. Comrade Huynh Huu Tri - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended and directed the conference.

According to the 2024 report, the Construction sector has performed well in its role as state management, especially in urban planning and development management. Up to now, the province has 12 urban areas; including: Bac Lieu City (type II urban area), Gia Rai Town (type IV urban area), and many towns and communes recognized as type V urban areas. The urbanization rate of the province is estimated at 42.0%, contributing to improving the quality of life and promoting socio -economic development.

In addition to the achievements, construction management still faces some difficulties such as the quality of construction planning is not consistent, planning updates are slow, and some planning projects are not suitable to the actual situation; the implementation of social housing and urban development projects has not yet met the set targets.

Speaking at the conference, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Huynh Huu Tri emphasized that 2025 is a year with many key projects that need to be completed, requiring the Construction sector to focus its efforts to effectively carry out the province's socio-economic development tasks. The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Construction sector to urgently reorganize its apparatus, strengthen administrative reform, reduce administrative procedures and promote online public services. At the same time, focus on completing planning, ensuring publicity, transparency and on-schedule progress, in order to create favorable conditions for infrastructure and urban development projects. The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Construction to review, accelerate the establishment, appraisal and approval of zoning plans and detailed plans in residential areas, in order to achieve the goal of increasing the province's urbanization rate to 45% in 2025. In particular, the Construction sector needs to actively coordinate the implementation of new legal documents, especially the Law on Urban and Rural Planning in 2024.
