Create conditions to increase flights to Ho Chi Minh City soon

On June 25, news from the Office of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, the Chairman of the People's Committee of this province has just issued an official dispatch directing provincial departments, branches, sectors, and organizations; People's Committees of localities to strengthen promotion and create conditions to soon increase flights to return to the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau route and vice versa.

Vietnam Airlines Corporation said that the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau flights on Friday and Sunday are ineffective.

Specifically, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province directed agencies, units and localities to study, grasp the content, widely disseminate information to civil servants, public employees, workers and people about flight schedules, plans to operate the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau route and vice versa to proactively arrange work and other necessary activities. At the same time, according to assigned functions and tasks, proactively coordinate with the Ca Mau Aviation Service Flight Company Branch, Ca Mau Airport and related units to strengthen promotion, coordination, support and create favorable conditions for Vietnam Airlines Corporation to soon increase flights again and maintain the frequency of operating the route.

As Thanh Nien reported, Ca Mau province proposed to maintain the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau route with a frequency of 7 flights/week. Then, Vietnam Airlines Corporation responded with information that from June 14 to July 31, the unit had cut 1 frequency on the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau route on Fridays and Sundays (reduced from 7 flights/week to 5 flights/week). Explaining the flight reduction, Vietnam Airlines Corporation provided data showing that the efficiency of exploiting this route has gradually decreased.

Specifically, from October 2023, the unit increased the frequency from 5 flights/week to 7 flights/week. From the implementation of the increased flight frequency to March 2023, the average seat utilization rate reached 83%, 2 points higher than the same period. However, by April 2024, the average seat utilization rate was only 68%, about 8-9 points lower than the same period on average. In particular, the average seat utilization rate for Friday and Sunday flights was only about 50%, not ensuring efficiency to maintain operations.

Vietnam Airlines Corporation said it is closely monitoring the situation of restoring the frequency of 7 flights/week from August 1. Regarding the request to change the flight time of the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau route on Friday and Sunday, this unit said that it currently does not have the resources in terms of aircraft and slots to meet the demand.
